color to tone down periwinkle?

Hi, I just had my bathroom cabinets painted. The color was supposed to be denim blue but it looks more like periwinkle and is really bright. What color accessories (towels, tooth brush holders, rugs etc) would tone it down? Repainting isn’t an option right now given I just paid a lot to have it done! The walls are cream and the tile is beige. I took the picture from far away. The painter took the one that is closer and the color is crazy bright in his picture. Help!

I feel like the floor tile is the bigger offender and/or the combination of the floor tile/cabinet coordination (or lack of). Maybe down the road, you can upgrade the floor to a white hex like this:

The color is bold so I'd go with a bold design.

I would play with the color and add ruby colors into the mix with a Persian rug:

Then, add in wallpaper (love that idea judianna20)

Yes, I’d like to redo all the tile but don’t currently have the budget so painting seemed the best option for a big change.

What about that blue and some green? My bedroom which is attached has green accents. It’s this color. And I love plants so want to have as many as possible in the bathroom.

Like these? I really wanted it to be calm and neutral like freedomplace1 suggested but if I can’t make that work, would these?

I don’t know how to tag people! Sorry!

Who selected that bright color? That's not denim. You might be able to tone it down with the black wax or black glaze from the Chalk Paint manufacturers.

@beverlyFLAdeziner I selected it. This is a screenshot of the color (I know it never looks the same in person).

I tired with some green and blue clothes I have and added texture.

    With the current rug…

The suggestion to add more blue will bring this room together.
Your current rug doesn’t work. You need one with more blue.
Love that your going to add texture. Baskets filled with a plant or towels always work.
Other than a green plant, or art, don’t add more green. You don’t need to add another color to this bath.

How about this? It’s mostly blue but also kinda neutral? And the texture is great.

I hate to be a stick in the mud, but I think the best option is to repaint. the hard work is done. they've already been prepped and primed. doing 1-2 more coats over clean new paint will adhere fine. you could DIY this way easier than wallpapering.

I'm sorry but that bathroom just doesn't have the right kind of style to support a wild color. I think you'll be so much happier if you just get what you wanted in the first place, and finding good accessories will be so much easier.

Embrace the saturated blue and add more. No pastels or toned down colors. I love the idea of wallpaper--here are some suggestions from F. Schumacher:

I would add a framed piece of art and hang it OVER YOUR MIRROR. I also like the pattern on the round rug you showed. LOVE the colours and texture, looks luxurious.

Yes the round rug looks great.

A framed piece of art over the mirror sound interesting.

Bolder rug, you got some great suggestions. I would change out the hardware for brushed gold, faucets too. I think the reason it is standing out so much, is the rest of the room is so blah. If you can change out that mirror for a couple sleek gold framed mirrors and a bright piece of art on that blank wall, you could have a really pretty room

I wouldn't hang art over the mirror, however, any art you hang on the wall opposite the mirror is going to be reflected in the mirror, too. Looks like you do have some wall space there that could be used.

In some computers and mood boards, I think it's a casual cottage blue - you did so well with different fabrics, and it showed possibilities. Question esp. with your current runner's style: I could see that delicate pattern, but as backsplash // not on top of that tile. Placement matters.

What style is your bedroom? green is fine with blue - for a garden look.

Almost like my friend's bathroom with violet and green floral wallpaper, very pretty... a statement of that style.

I saw your ideabooks and here's one of yours that shows you like pattern. I think your grass planter was fab with floor's natural color. You're at it now!

The only rug I favor is the woven look of blue, lights, and rust. Nice with your baskets I think. Maybe a couple terra cotta pots. :)

I'm gonna try it though not needed on that wall - some place for bit of the rustic?

I’m sorting through all your great ideas! Right now, any major changes like new tile/backsplash, etc. aren’t in the budget. But, I will replace the hardware and add lots of texture and plants. So, as for a bold rug, how about these? They are bold, have the blue but aren’t entirely blue, and the rusts/roses kinda tie in my flooring?

Just stopping in to say I love the color!

    Love the second floral rug!

but idk that you have to change hardware - after all, they aren't so far from the rug styles? and they aren't all angular or industrial.

@everdebz that is the most charming home I've seen in a long time! Unique and colorful, it just exudes happiness! (Although the builder calling it a "farmhouse" is kind of a misnomer!)

A dark wood frame around the mirror would distract from the blue.

JD- yes! That’s my plan. I really want to replace that mirror with two smaller ones but I’m compromising with my husband so we’re going to frame it. What color would you suggest? The hardware is all oil rubbed bronze so maybe a finish like that? Or just a dark stained wood? Thanks!

Everdebz the hardware is currently birdcage and I want to replace it with a cup. Something like this. What do you think? Also, I could use oil rubbed bronze or maybe copper that would compliment the oil rubbed bronze faucets?

Can someone tell me how to tag people when I reply to a specific question? I’ve googled instructions and still can’t figure it out. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Dark stained wood about the same darkness as the bronze you put in. For your question regarding the mirror frame

If the wood mirror is light it won’t do much to distract from the brighter blue. The wood would just be another muted object in the space imo
