I’d be inclined to say Elm but I’m not at all up on them.

siberian elm is ubiquitous in my MI .. and a nightmare in storm winds and ice damage ...

one winter we were out of power for days because just about every SE in the county broke and dropped limbs due to ice ..

and they are a nightmare reseeder ...

i would not have one anywhere where it might fall on the house or anything else of value ... and its apparent from these pix.. that that would have been a good idea .... but if its out in the middle of a few acres.. so be it.. but i wouldnt waste money on have it properly pruned .. unless you enjoy throwing good many at a bad situation... be rid if it someday.. and plant some replacements that can handle the next hundred years...

Thank you all! And Ken I appreciate the input it was asked of one of my neighbors to have it removed not because its a hazard but it looked bad due to the tornado we had in my city of Newnan GA. It was an EF4 tornado about as bad as it gets. This tree and a Palm tree we planted 20 yrs ago are the only trees that survived. I guess because of its flexibility which makes me wonder what type of elm that would be. The branches droop a sway in the wind. I have not noticed it reseeding, but the massive oaks that used be around it may have kept it from having a population. The oaks were a nightmare for me always dropping limbs on the fence and then crushing the garage and nearly my home, never again. Our city now no longer has the canopy of giant oaks and other hardwood trees, very bare now. My wife felt bad to cut it down but has consented to its removal. Its way at the back of the property . I am now a believer in no trees around my house. At least none that grow over 15 - 20 ft maybe.

Could be Siberian elm, but leaves look a bit too big for a pure one. Often Siberians will hybridize w/slippery elms & IMO most likely that. I've got both right nearby, so familiar w/them.

Even could be American elm, but leaves don't look quite big enough for that.

I watched this mushroom hunters video and he really is into identifying slippery elms. At this point in the video he shows examples of the leaves between american and slippery and if he is right my tree has leaves that look more like the american elm to me. Ill post a few pictures of the trunk and bark pattern if that might make a difference.
