did a bunch of .... cuttings (seedling) this weekend 'before looking up information' on the best methods.

seedlings are grown from seeds ... dont confuse your words ... you have cuttings ..

i ALWAYS moisten my media.. especially a peat product ... before use .. it take a few days to moisten it ... i dont want it sodden.. just moist ..

most of us think misting is useless... and inside your little chamber.. i cant imagine why you would need any additional moisture/humidity ... thats the whole point of the enclosure ... and if it isnt making humidity. that means there isnt enough water in there ....

you should be able to find the preferred temp of the media.. dirrs book on propagation is the usual bible for such ... i dont have time to do it for you right now ...

keep in mind.. as i dont know where you are.. it doesnt matter how warm it is during the day. but most of us kick down the heat at night in winter.. and a cold period during half the day will defeat whatever heat you have during the day ... when i tried rooting things.. i ran the heat mat at night.. to insure even temps all 24 hours ..

watch some of the links below .. if you notice they are mostly vids from tropical areas.. you ought to be able to intuit the native temps and figure it out from there.. somewhat ...

i have no idea if your timing.. of doing this now .... is proper ... on some plants you need NEW wood.. on others old WOOD ... just a variable i mention ... no clue on the answer ...

I have found Feijoa to be a real challenge to root as cuttings; layering is more certain. When I had access to a heated mist bench the success rate was about 20% even with strong rooting hormone treatment. There were major differences between the varieties in their willingness to root. We rooted in pure perlite. Best time in our experience was summer with semi-firm new growth.

Ultimately, we grew seedlings and grafted to perserve the good varieties. Grafting was done in Feb. (in the SF Bay Area).

Yes, Feijoa is very difficult, even with all things in one's favour. Cuttings, I'm talking about. Maybe try some from seed? It will be a LOT easier.

Could I do air layers right now if I bring the pineapple guava inside the home. I've already took the tips off of most branches for the cuttings but I still have a ton of branches on the tree probably last year's growth.
