hedge implies a lifetime of shearing... in most suburban settings ..... is that what you want ...

We can all tell where the patio is. We know nothing of the views in or out or the location of lot lines.

setting a sight line block.. on the edge of the patio ... will encapsulate.. the patio.. and make it feel rather small ... perhaps claustrophobic.. if you will ..

define what you want to hide from.. and then planting out in the yard ... will open the patio and remove the constraints of the formal hedge at the edge of such ... and allow you to use the whole space of your yard .. which you wont be able to see if you grow a hedge on the edge of the patio ...

I would be careful with placing tea olives out in the open in 7A. I am in zone 7B North Atlanta and mine have really struggled as a hedge because the cold March nips back the new growth every spring. Therefore the growth is very slow vs the ones against my foundation that are more protected.

Is there a fence in back, so you want screening from your neighbor's second floor windows? Or do you need shrubs, too? My magnolias are tall, single trunk trees. They provide little screening below their crowns, which are well over my head.

I'd add clethra and ninebarks.
