We just had a Holiday House Tour sponsored by the local historical society. We visited 12 houses, spoke to the owners, and looked at the details of lighting, woodwork, fireplaces, tiles, etc. Later this summer we will go on the house and garden tour. It’s a fun and educational day/evening and as a bonus, we made new friends. Those of us with old houses love sharing our trials, tribulations, and sources for preserving the character and history of our homes. We are extremely fortunate our small town has such a wide span of historic homes. You might be lucky enough to score authentic tile for your hearth at a salvage yard or find a suitable reproduction. Since it such a small hearth ( exactly correct for the time period of your house) shouldn’t cost too much. You will be so happy if you spend the effort finding the right tile.

Replacing the tile is the best option, but since it’s a non working fp maybe just paint it until you find the perfect tile.

Oh I don’t plan to do anything until we find tiles. The stained tile does not bother me. But the goal is to replace the tile at some point just don’t know what to choose
