Thinking about a loft bed for guest bedroom.

Our guest bedrooms are rather small, but this is our forever home and we aren't having any children. I have a queen bed in this room and there isn't a lot of floor space. I was thinking about adding a loft bed over the queen bed and reposition it in the corner where the desk and drawers are. The desk wouldn't fit perfectly in the corner by the window because of the mouldings, but I don't think it's that big of a deal. Adding a loft means we could sleep another person with twin loft or two with a full loft in a pinch and repositioning the bed and furniture would give more floor space. The idea is in its infancy and it has been a little bit of a challenge finding a loft I like. Most of them have desks/built ins which wouldn't let the bed fit under there. Some of them have a combo of a loft with a bed that fits under it. I don't necessarily need the bed because I have a bedframe and headboard so that's an extra cost but, if I found one I liked with a bed, I would probably go for it. I loved what I saw on Adult Bunk Beds, but that's about 3x-4x the cost of what I would want to pay as I still have to get another mattress, bedding, etc. The drawers/desk have been in my family for decades and I was thinking about painting them to spruce them up a bit and get some new hardware.

The wall where the door is is 7 feet 9 inches from the corner where the drawers/desk is to the door frame. The wall where the window is is over 8 feet from the corner to the window. Our ceilings are 8 feet and move up 9 feet.

Just looking for some guidance and ideas.

Ditto above. It’s nice of you to think of potential guests, but be realistic. What adult wants to climb a ladder to get into bed? Or out? Maybe a sleeper sofa, or an air mattress in another room would be better? Are you expecting frequent guests? You can always say that you can sleep X people, and add that there is a wonderful Airbnb/hotel/BnB nearby.

Who are your guests likely to be?

Having beds to sleep 4 doesn’t mean 4 people (especially adults) would be comfortable sleeping in a room that size.

As of right now, my guests are teenage boys who are out of town athletes who will come stay the night with my husband and I so they don't have to drive home late at night after practice. But, we also have family members that come to town a few times a year too.

Teenagers can sleep anywhere - a blow up mattress would be the height of comfort. When I was that age I could literally sleep on the floor.

Get a good blow up mattress - I had a foam chair that folded down into a very comfortable place for people to sleep.

I do have a blow up mattress but there is no space in my guest rooms for it. It would have to go in our living room.

I think there is plenty of floor space. If I were a guest I would not want to sleep in a loft bed. Also have you ever tried to make a lofted bed? Loft beds are something you would find in a kids room or college dorm room.

I agree teens will sleep anywhere and especailly boys. I think you need to think about the other guests you get and share that with us if you truly want help. IMO no adults want to have bunk beds. We have 2 gest rooms but usually one is used by an International student for the school year we have a single bed in that space and a queen in the other room . Once a summer we have 21 young adults who stay on hteir way to a music festival for one night and then return for a week stay they sleep where ever there is a flat spot and it is just pure fun.IMO you have a good sized rook but you do not need the desk set up and honestly in a guest room a small dresser inside the closet is all you need . Post a to scale plan maybe there is a way to layout the space with 2 queen beds .

Could you put in 2 long twins?

Not too crazy about the loft idea.
