To light the art properly, the fixture should be about 3 ft. away from the face of the art. The bounce of the light off the art will supply plenty of light for the staircase.

We had eyeballs installed into the ceiling for a more streamined unobstructed view. It washes the picture with light.

Will the light in question be the only light in the foyer? Can you take a picture from further back and show more of the space?

IMO you need a chandelier or some type of stairway lighting and if that staircase is properly lit it will also light the art Make sure whatever you choose is LED 4000K to keep those colors true in that art and the wall. I think the type Beverly shows are good .

Ive seen many different types such as this. the LEDS really give off good light and we have caseta dimmers controlling them.

Sorry I thought you already had a light fixture. Use the recessed adjustable lights for the art.

please don't hang a track light there, get a 4-inch low voltage recessed light, use an MR16 20w 30-45 degree bulb. yes, halogen not led. a wide flood will over light.

Well, to be totally honest, it doesn't do much for me. The very simple globes spread out look like a child's blown bubbles and the fixture doesn't seem especially creative. I do like that you picked something that is curvilinear and is 20th century - 21st century.

However, I think you can do better.

I love the origami light fixtures.

They look like folded paper, and there are so many of them.

You need to decide if they are to your taste, and if they distract from the art.

Here are a few.

I think you have to ask yourself, is it about the art or is it about adding something else to the stairwell. If the fixture is too busy the art will take a backseat.

No on the photoshopped one. I would put nothing there if you have recessed lights. Instead, change out the flush light in the hallway and any others in that space to something in a dark, complementary tone. A narrow console with a night lamp will fill in the space under the window.

If you need a hanging light, go dark to not detract from the art.

Light and the hanging one could go on the ceiling out of frame - it looks like it may be raised. That would balance the art.

Why not try a really nice complementary chandelier and then add some recessed lights that are adjustable to light up the artwork itself.
