What a nice looking house I think the blue is okay if it is the same blue as the upholstery on the chairs but I don't see those chairs in the pics so maybe share those . I am not a lover of blue walls so I like what is there now to be honest.

Van Deusen Blue is rather dark with a lot of grey in it.

I am not sure that it is convivial and that it would look well in a dining room or living room as the wall colors.

I see it more for a library or study, or a guest bathroom, or a male bedroom.

The BM SIlver Satin is just lovely, a wonderful choice for your walls with a different sheen for the trim and cabinets.

I think that you can use the Van Duesen Blue color in your rugs, dining room chairs, upholstery, trim on curtains, artwork, etc.

These photos may not be your exact Van Duesen Blue but you get the idea.

I understand where you're coming from because I have a similar issue although my living and dining rooms are next to each other, not across the foyer from each other. One has a large south facing window and the other has only a north facing window. I haven't decided what to do yet, I just got paint samples today. That is a very dark blue that you have chosen, so I guess if I were you I would paint the bright room first and see if you really like the color before doing the other room. I hope it turns out the way you're hoping and not cavelike. Please update this post after painting to let us know how it turns out. I would be really interested to see new pictures.

I hope you dod tbe dark and ignored the naysayer designers that alwasy suggest outdated styles. navy and dark with that much wainscotting is beautiful!
