I'm solving my own problem ... in another thread is this idea (see photo). Thoughts? If they matched our stain and were just half-shutters and only on one (front) window.... would this look good?

The shutters are fine but consider the impact on the natural light coming thru that window.

Other thought is use a tension rod at the middle height of the window with a curtain in the fabric of your choice.

And ... it would look something like this. Hmmm. Thoughts? It isn't quite what I want.

Room is east facing, front of house has a somewhat deep porch - so less light comes in than you'd think.

... curtains (I might be posting this twice?) -- It looks a little too precious, perhaps?

Thanks JCK910 -- our other windows in this room have similar blinds, which work great but aesthetically I'm not a fan! - I love the old look of these big wooden windows and feel like the blinds just don't look right. (Current solution is, of course, worse...) House is from 1905.

I have a French Bulldog who sounds less like a bodyguard and more like a panicked chicken :) (Our neighbors really asked us if we got a chicken.) And I live on a fairly busy street so the squawking is not a rare occurrence!

But yes to finding a better short-term solution!

Provides privacy/blocks dogs' view yet provides plenty of light penetration. And easily removable when you decide you've had enough.

For the short term I covered my cardboard with leftover peel-and-stick wallpaper. It also lets me see what curtains might look like.

Or two tension rods with a fabric of your choice. Plus it’s removable if needed.

On the middle and bottom of window.

I wouldn’t break the window into thirds. I would install a curtain rod at the break between the upper window and the bottom window. Or shutter just the bottom portion of the window.

I assume that you already know that just not seeing the other dogs or delivery people is enough to stop the barking? My dog KNOWS if anyone walks up or walks by--especially dogs. Not seeing them would not be a deterrent :)

Highdesertow -- the cardboard has been a test! - Doors slamming will get them anxious, as does someone on the porch, but otherwise they are oblivious!

Yes, I love the shutters! Thought you wanted a semi permanent fix. Dogs are the Best!

The dogs will pull down the window curtain. Seen friends shredded curtains . I would put window film.

i have 2 great danes who warn me (very loudly) when someone is driving up the lane. it's their job and they do it well...too well, sometimes. when i want to shut them up, i holler "false alarm!" and they quiet right down.

i love the little half curtains in the photos but i think the shutters are pretty cute, too!
