Ever bought white oak, but got red instead?

Bought two bundles of unfinished white oak flooring to test stains, one a month ago, the second one this weekend. On the first batch, I did a bunch of small samples. Then bought the second bundle to see what a few of my favorites looked like in larger swatches. However, the stains on new sample are obviously looking really pink. The Pallman's hardwax white on the first bundle in the small sample looked gorgeous with defined tans, etc. from the tannin pull. On this second bundle it is flat out pink when it dried... To confuse things further, we also bought a bundle of red oak for a different project, but those planks were all marked by a red pen check on each board...The white did not.

Did the store screw up, and give us two bundles of red, or does white oak sometimes lean red depending on the species? How do I prove it?
