Mirror Frame Color (Dining Room)

We are hoping for advice on what color to paint this mirror frame.

Our style is transitional and we don’t have any other gold or brass in our house. We will be changing the cabinet pulls once we decide on the colour of the mirror. The rest of the accents/hardware in the house are either matte black or brushed nickel. The frame on the painting is royal blue/lighter navy but can easily be changed.

Thanks so much!

Please take the table cloth off the table and why not try silver leaf for the mirror frame I think painting it will make it look cheap.

You can have gold in this room, even though you do not have gold anywhere else.

On another note, I would not touch the mirror till you are done accessorizing the room. Try to find a lamp or two that is similar in style with the chandelier over your table. This will connect the two. You may then appreciate the mirror as is. If not then decide if you want to paint it another color.

I agree with @Patricia Colwell Consulting take the table cloth off the table when not in use.

Add a centerpiece to the table.

Do you mean a floor lamp or a table lamp? Thank you!

Have you thought of switching the painting and the mirror? the painting would be nice above the buffet. The mirror would need to be rotated if alone on the wall though.

The mirror would be beautiful in silver leaf but if this is not something you know how to do then you will have to have it done professionally. That would cost quite a bit and I’m not sure this beautiful mirror suites your space. BTW, they do make ceiling medallions in rectangular formats! You should look for one and change that!

I mean, table lamps for your buffet.

Someone mentioned trying the art you have in place of the mirror.

I would give that a shot and see if you like it there. Why not? Decorating is trial and error. I

Of course if the mirror is very precious to you and you want want keep it in this space you may consider designing the room around it! Please do remove the tablecloth. Just a thought if you decide to keep it.

Thank you for all of these very helpful suggestions.

I like the mirror with the gold chandelier. Maybe rethink the rug to bring in more color?

On the other hand, if you really don’t want any metallics then change out the mirror for art. Find art you like that can stand up to the dark furniture and the iron light fixture.

As Beverley advised above, plus consider replacing the art, as it doesn’t seem to work well, color or style wise. Recommend a gold frame and softer, complementary shades.

If you don’t mind me saying (I tend to focus on accessorizes, as they can have such a big influence in a room), I think light linen-like drapes would be better, as the black is too dominant and room would feel softer. A large floor plant by window and a centerpiece for some greenery. .

I don't mind the gold frame color, but I think the style of the mirror is too ornate if you are moving away from traditional toward transitional.

Maybe look into changing out the chandelier to something with gold in it. We also suggest looking into lighter window treatments, adding buffet lamps, and trying artwork with some gold in it. Here are some of our designs which might help you further.

I think your ceiling medallion and chandelier don’t really blend well. i would take down one or the other. as the seem to be fighting each other.

Honestly, I would nix the mirror in favor of artwork. Mirrors don't work well unless there is something really intersting reflected in it.
