What do you wish you'd known before purchasing your adjustable bed?

For those of you who own split King adjustable beds, what do wish you'd known before buying your bed? Do certain frames work better with certain mattresses? Are there certain brands/models you highly recommend?

I got some great suggestions from a thread that I practically hijacked in the Bathroom forum, so I decided to start a new post here. I found this interesting Fortune Article on Leggett & Platt beds and the Symmetry Sp sounds interesting since we're into gadgets/tech features. Does anyone own a Sven & Son adjustable bed?

I normally research purchases to the nth degree, but it's difficult to objectively compare between models/brands since many are proprietary to a single seller. We love Costco's return policy, but all of their adjustable beds seem to get mixed reviews. Plus, how easily can we realistically return a bed when we have 23 steps from our driveway to our bedroom?!

My husband sleeps on his side, occasionally snores and has lower back issues. He sleeps hot and likes a med/firm to firm bed. I sleep on both my back and stomach and prefer a super firm bed. We also watch a lot of TV in bed, and I work on my laptop/phone for hours while in bed (very bad habits we're trying break, but no success so far).

We've been sleeping in our guest bedroom since September 2021 while we're renovating our second floor. We rarely have guests, so this Dynasty Cool Breeze 12" mattress we're sleeping on now is practically brand new. It's sitting on top of a box spring that we kept from a prior bed. The mattress felt great in the beginning, but now it's starting to feel a bit saggy and isn't as comfortable as before.

We've gone through two Dynasty Cool Breeze 14" extra firm King mattresses upstairs in the nine years we've been in our home. This is our current bed frame (no box spring). My husband installed a plywood board across the top of the fame to help support our mattress.

If you've made it this far, do you have any suggestions/tips for finding our dream bed? We're getting tired of replacing our mattress every 4-5 years!

@Liz H, thanks for sharing your experience with your split king bed! Temperpedic seems to get a lot of love,so we're going to try yo find a store to check them out in person.

I have a temperpedic split king with adjustable bases with vibration. Never ever have used the vibration— not even sure if they sell it anymore. The bed with frames was extremely expensive— after now having it 12 years, it’s as comfortable as the day we got it. Zero regrets other than the vibration.

Julie, I know they say “if you keep this 10 years, it’s 6 cents a day “ or something like that. Keep this in mind when looking— when we go away and stay at a hotel or Air B&B, I soooo look forward to my own bed.

I posted on OP's original thread but wanted to comment on the "vibration". The vibration isn't something that I specifically looked for but just was one of the features like the LED lighting and snore function that are there.

I didn't use it for a long time and then I tested it and became hooked. I use it as part of my going to sleep ritual and it seems to signal my body to get to sleep because I am generally asleep before it stops. I certainly wouldn't use it as a real massager type of thing for any other purpose except for me it is almost like it is a Pavlovian signal to my sleep center :-).

@Helen, thanks again for all the great ingo/tips!

We were so busy doing honey do's for my elderly parents that we never made it out of OC! I did, however, connect briefly with Joseph and told him we'd schedule a day to see him when we return to OC in April. We try to see my parents every 3-4 months so come down fairly often.

I had never heard of the Sven beds but they are a bundle with a mattress and I personally would not want to buy the platform and the mattress as a single unit. All of the theoretical features of the Sven bed are in my Leggett & Platt adjustable platform and there is a similar very long warranty.

Price for the Sven bed seems too low. I bought in Fall 2017 before the pandemic inflation and a Temperpedic queen size basic mattress was $2000 and price was the same at all stores as they dont discount.

I didn’t like the feel of memory foam so I went with a latex and foam mattress but my next mattress will be 100% latex. My queen size adjustable platform and mattress was about $3800 with tax and I would imagine prices have gone up since then and king size with adjustable frame would be commensurately higher.

The other adjustable frame I was considering was a Sealey which was comparable in price to the Leggett. I think the frame was about $1500 and the mattress was about $2000. A latex mattress would have been about $3000 as I recall.
