We have a home that we purchased relatively recently. It was originally built in Cape Cod style in the 40s then renovated in the 80s into some nondescript, sort of modern style by a homeowner who was an architect himself. The landscaping is what I would call rustic.

We love the inside but we don’t love how inconsistent the front looks — out of whack with itself and the neighborhood.

We would like to make some modest changes to the front and facade. The major change we want is some sort of entry portico, and also to try to make everything work better together.

So here’s the question — any advice for what to be looking for and what questions to ask of an architect in order to find the right kind of person for this sort of job? Thanks for your recommendations.
