Get rid of the propane! The off-gases and by-products of burning are nasty! How about a wood pellet stove? Or something that burns compressed paper or something.

Why not get a wood burning stove? They are available in a lot of different styles if you want a contemporary look. I think the brick wall needs a little attention. You have that great tall ceiling and your room has kind of a chalet look. The display shelves on the bricks are way too high, the mantle is too skimpy and that arched nook looks, well, weird (sorry). If this was my house, I’d get rid of the shelves altogether, beef up the mantle (maybe an antique wrap-around beam mantle), and clad the top part of the fireplace to the ceiling with barn board or ship lap to hide that weird nook. If the budget is higher, perhaps clad the entire brick from floor to ceiling with stone veneer and add a substantial mantle. Don’t skimp out on the mantle. The brick or whatever you do takes up a lot of visual space and the scale of the mantle should balance.
