LG Gas Range knobs keep failing - alternative?

I’ve never had this problem on any stove range.

Any help would be appreciated.

We have an LG Range and when we moved into the house all the knobs were loose.

Turns out the the plastic components were all cracked.

We replaced all 5.

I took precautions and found a suggestion to wrap the plastic with electrical to keep them snug.

We were careful, pushing down to ignite… and they are cracking again.

At $25-$35 a pop I’m over replacing these as it seems silly they are made of plastic.

Can the “universal ones” work? Any metal ones? I read them and they say they may not fit all knobs. Is there a better option?

I’m almost to the point of wanting to replace the entire 5 burner range because I can’t use 2 large pans at the same time with any amount of heat because each burner is sized different.

What model LG range is it?

@wdccruise I can’t tell. I looked under and see no markings.

You have a cooktop, not a range. LG says for a cooktop: "On either the front of the bottom panel, under the counter, or on the underside of the unit. To see it, open the cabinet."

Your photo seems to be aimed primarily at the back of the unit, toward the wall. Look beneath toward the front where the control panel is located.

    Thanks for clarifying!

I always called it “Rod iron” until someone from Houzz corrected me to “wrought iron” so I’m always grateful to learn more.

I can feel a label and slight see that it’s a barcode but I can’t get up in there at all.

Oh my. They apparently have the label on front of the control box, to which view is obscured by your installation. The intention is that it can be seen by opening lower cabinet doors in front of the unit. Perhaps you (with assistance) can lift the front of the cooktop up out of the countertop to look for the label?

The supports on which cookware sits above the burner are called grates.

The cooktop appears to be the LG LCG3011ST (other models don't have the "Superboil" label on them). If this is the case the Cooktop Burner Knob part number is AEZ73293801. Maybe you could use a substitute (though these do have unneeded markings on them):

    or similar

I have two false drawer doors there.

I pushed up on it a little before you told me and it didn’t budge but I’ll try again in the morning.

My dad has one of those little dentist mirrors I’ll see if I can borrow.

Did you contact LG with your issue? You probably are not the only one with this issue. Prior to purchasing a gas range, i read about lots of problems concerning plastic knobs, and ended up purchasing a Samsung range with metal knobs that are issue free. I love my Samsung range.

Don't know if this is a correct knob without the model number (or a part number embossed / labeled on your existing knobs?) ... here's an after-market version of a particular style via a seller on Amazon. It may be of equal (or better) quality, or lesser for the lower price. LG Burner Knob

Someone with this tip advises to find metal washers of an appropriate size and and glue a stack of them around the plastic sleeve on the knob to reinforce it. Reinforce Plastic Burner Knobs

I had an LG stove before my reno and the knobs were garbage. I had to switch knobs on the burner I used most often because it was cracked and wouldn't ignite.

I had it for about 10 years, and by the end only three out of five knobs worked, and they were all cracked on the stem.

I was wrong, not a range a cooktop.

Dadoes… I’m trying! So I pushed up hard from under the cooktop. Are these things just friction fit? It sounds almost like I’m separating some kind of double sided tape. It’s moving a tiny bit. But I don’t know how much to (wo)man handle it.

Cooktop came with house, only 8 years old so id rather not replace the whole thing immediately but would like to have an idea of what I want if it goes.

I’ll look at the washer idea.

    Dadoes… I’m working too hard 🤣

These are what we purchased and they fit:

It’s pretty bad if you need to subscribe and save to these.

But I don’t know if that’s actually my mode number.

Washer hack looks good but not sure it will work on mine, but I’ll snoop around my dads tool shed for some spare parts and see if I can come up with something

AEZ73293801 in your photo above is the part number of the knob, not the model of the cooktop. The aftermarket knob I linked at Amazon references the same part number.

The control shaft is recessed into the panel so washers around the sleeve on the knob probably won't work. :-(

Maybe a wrap of stronger tape?

This is giving me all things to look for when we have to purchase another cooktop.

So based on your suggestion, I added a drop of superglue to keep the metal ring inside, then I wrap with gorilla tape. Because it has to fit inside that little hole, 2 layers of tape make the circumference too big.

So I cut it like a pennant and wrapped it so it could sit deep.

Hopefully it will work for the foreseeable future.

    Really appreciate your help.

FYI: LG may have learned its knob lesson. I have an LG LSE4617ST induction range whose knobs appear to be all metal. The metal control shaft sticks into the knob; the knob itself has no shaft to break.

How do you like your induction?

I dreamt of gas.. but used an induction hot plate in my apartment because the stove was such a crappy electric one.. and I loved using it.

Now I have gas and forgot how hard the thing is to clean… how much heat loss… no I miss induction but like the “prepper” part of gas if we lose power (rarely but I live in Texas and had some sense knocked out of me last year)

I really love your burner layout. I use my middle burner for most because it has the biggest flame and I use a lot of bigger pots.

It’s impossible for me to pan fry anything with a pot of water going for pasta (even when I use a smaller pot than my Dutch over).

Houzz is gonna kill me when I billed my own kitchen and just have 5 induction hot plates I’ll pull out as needed to cook 😂

"How do you like your induction? I dreamt of gas.. but used an induction hot plate in my apartment because the stove was such a crappy electric one.. and I loved using it."

I bought an induction hot plate to try out and found myself always using it instead of my electric radiant range which I eventually replaced with the LG LSE4617ST.

Your LG LCG3011ST cooktop requires a 28-1/2" x 19-11/16". Interestingly, the IKEA SÄRKLASSIG Induction cooktop requires a 28-1/2" x 19-10/16" cutout so if you ever got tired of the LG, you could easily swap it out for remarkably-inexpensive ($700) IKEA...which has NO knobs to break.

Wow.. $700 seems like a steal!

Thanks for sharing. I never think of ikea for appliances.

@ kculbers We have Samsung gas range with the nice metal knobs but the stems are actually plastic and will crack. We have already replaced once and they are cracking again (design defect) I am actually on Houzz now looking for an alternatve. Would NEVER buy Samsung again! Does anyone know if the knobs from high end brands are actually metal and fit on a Samsung stove?

Angieeb. My Samsung range is “issue free”. Sorry to hear you have issues with cracking.
