Reroute air intake to combustion intake?

Just moved into a house with a air intake beside the gas furnace. Our old house had a dedicated combustion air intake, but this one was just an open vent. Eventually we will install a dedicated intake but meanwhile can I just connect the open vent to the furnace air combustion intake?

Ie, is this a bad idea in the short run? Other appliance is a gas water heater but it is a big basement for fresh

Dedicated outdoor air is the best, of course, but you should be fine with it as it was. Just make sure your temporary solution of corrugated aluminum dryer vent doesn't have to much restriction to airflow - I'm guessing from your 3" flue vent that it's quite long to the exterior (?)

Thanks! No it is pretty close to the outside, only a few meters tops. I think the diameter of the pipe is more what remains from the previous oil furnace. The length of the aluminum vent is only a few meters so I don't think air will be restricted.
