Nice if you like these colors - they're warming but not too much.

In neutral rooms, it can be hard to suggest rugs for others. It’s kind of like choosing art.

Do you like florals? Abstracts? Other patterns? Solids?

Do you want to bring in some color, a lot of color, or stay more neutral and tone on tone?

Preferred style — traditional, modern, transitional, other?

    Preferred material?

    Budget?

We could post a million different rugs here, based on our own likes, but narrowing it down to your preferences would help with suggestions.

Unless you want a very monochromatic look with the two rooms, I wouldn’t stress about being too matchy. Coordinate, yes, but they can be unique.

If you haven’t already, try some sites that have mock-up features, such as:

    Rugs Direct

    Incredible Rugs and Decor

    eSales Rugs

    Rugs USA

    CB2 (modern styles)

    Crate & Barrel (modern)

I’ve ordered from every one of the above, with all good experiences. Be sure to compare prices — many sites carry the same brands.

Example of the mock-up feature using this rug …

    And this one …

    More transitional …

The blues here might coordinate well with the rug above, and I like the mix of styles:

    A more modern look …

    Maybe with this …

But I have no idea if you like any of these colors, patterns, etc.

Another thing to keep in mind is that mock-ups aren’t exact — computer monitors can all show different color tones — and that goes for photos of rugs on the rug sites, too. It’s best to get a sample or the smallest rug to see if the colors work in your room, as big rugs are such a pain to return. I recently ordered one for my dad’s house, and it’s so much lighter and faded looking than the rug site showed. I find the review sections to be very helpful, especially seeing them in people’s rooms (different lighting situations, etc).

Pretty rooms, would enjoy seeing “afters”. :)

I love the second one in the dining! You could use 1 and 2 as they gel well together and use one in the living and the other in the dining.

    Ak, these two?

    Switched —

I like them together, too … they’re both from the Karastan “Spice Market” line. Curious if the OP likes these darker, more traditional colors and style. These two don’t mock up well (blurry) — they’re really beautiful, detailed, and sophisticated in person.

You know a few heads are exploding over omg-mixing-the-chair-pattern-with-a-patterned-rug-omg. 😂

I love mixing traditional with modern, too:

Two very important things I forgot to ask the OP earlier —

What is on the other side of these rooms? I’m assuming the kitchen, and/or entry? It would help to see, especially if there are other rugs visible.

What window treatments are you planning?

These answers might make all of my suggestions completely worthless. :)

I like that last layout, Maureen! Lovely look.

Jinx, now seeing the one in the living room it does not work with her style.

I too like the last layout Maureen.

Ak, yes … looking again, I think it’s too busy, although mock-ups are hard to tell. I’m really liking these rugs Maureen showed. In this situation, I’d probably want to have a patterned one in the dining room, solid (textured) in living room. But that’s just me, you know I love mixing things. :)

IMO a cream to add light to the room is required. Then some sort of gray pattern or graphic would be nice.

IMO the layout for your living room could be improved upon
