i love it, but you do have to be cautious with softer woods. Be sure to put something under paper if you will be writing on it!

Thank you for the kind words. I must admit that doing this the second time around, I was not as steadfast as I was after Hurricane Katrina. But it helps when you have a husband, partner, or significant other to help lift you up when you get down.

Casey Weimar I do not know the manufacturer as we ordered the floors through a local floor company. It is white oak though with a natural water based stain.

Lovely makeovers

Well! I'm in UK and own what's considered an average detached 3bed home , on the large size for a build just 20 years old , but WOWSERS!! My entire home would fit in the downstairs area of your featured home! Were really short of space in UK and I'd say 99% of us live cramped whilst the 1%of rich and greedy types live maybe similar to you in US! As a result we are absolutely ingenious when it comes to style with function and j love viewing ideas from other countries it's so interesting!

It all looks very nice, but function wise I find tv over fireplaces neck breaking, and an island stovetop without a range hood bound to create a film of oil all over in time. Would have had the double oven and stove top on the wall where the fridge is, and moved the fridge to where the ovens are.

I often wonder 1. if commenters would be so brutally "honest" if their real names were revealed, and 2. what their homes look like. Not sure they'd be as "magazine worthy" as Gabe Champ's is.

To all… I will say that some of houzz://user/zealart concerns were also my own.

1. The TV is not too high, I thought is was going to be. But after testing all seating areas and talking to others who have the same configuration, we like the height.
2. No range above the stove because it is a downdraft range…a very powerful one at that
   No one has to like my home or agree with my choices. I only put this out there as inspiration and maybe uplift someone who may have had a home fire as well.

Additionally, we were under the constraints of insurance $ so we kept our “old” double oven and “old” refrigerator/freezer and had to keep them in previous location. We dis not have the $ to completely redesign and move plumbing. I thought we did a good job considering…
