Hot water heater suggestions

I have basically replaced nearly everything in my home over past couple of years. I had a serious problem with high iron content in my well water, which was just addressed with a new softener/filter system. All of the faucets/drains, and all water lines are new. I replaced all of the copper with PEX. The only piece that is OLD and most likely very inefficient is the water heater. I am guessing it is from the 70's or 80's. My furnace was just replaced, and I went with propane (because natural gas is not available to me). I figure I should replace the hot water heater before it dies but I am unsure of what type to get. Do I stay with electric, or go to propane, and do standard tank or tankless? The house only has one bathroom, and it is only my wife and I, if that makes a difference. Any help or suggestions would be great.
