Sherry: You know I have a weakness for yellow and I love your Mary Todd. I miss mine. So happy to see yours growing so magnificently. I lost my Mary's Baby to the arctic freeze last year and had a devil of a time trying to find it again from a rust free source. Now I see Oakes has it this year in their catalog. I'm glad that more people have a chance to buy it from a rust free source and try it themselves. My other favorite of yours is Metaphor. It has that corduroy look to the petals that I find so appealing............David: Mystery of the Ages is my favorite, but the white star on Mary Alice Stokes sure draws my eye.....................Maryl

Sherry - Moroccan Sunrise sure is impressive with all those buds! Mage Quest is showing such a nice applique and has gorgeous color!

David - Mystery of the Ages is a pretty one. Mask and Metaphor and Metaphysical Moment are my kind of daylilies. I used to grow both, but grubs got M and M, and Metaphysical died in a pot one bad winter. Your clump of Megatron is stunning!

Sherry, your picture of Mary's Baby is beautiful. It is so hard to photograph but I think you correctly captured it. Of the others I like the rich color of Midnight Raider and the fancy purple Mystery of the Ages. Also Maney Augustine always catches my eye.

Here are a few of our M's.

I can't wait to see Man-eating Bat at clump strength. It was just a single fan when purchased so it has taken it awhile.

Martha Edson Norris is one of Richard Norris' big flat diploids.

Maynard Max was hybridized by a friend of ours. I just wish it would set seed.

Merely Mystical is pretty but not really my color. It will be leaving the garden this spring (part of the downsizing).

I worry that Mermaid Princess is not very hardy. It doesn't seem to increase much.

Merry Moppet is a frustrating daylily. It often doesn't open well. It would be gone if hadn't proven itself a good parent. The offspring don't seem to have the opening problem.

Millicent Bystander reblooms faithfully for us in September.

We divided Mitch Lynd, which set it back for a while, but now it's making a come back.

Moving Forward is a southern that does well for us.

Mulan was a bonus plant. I don't think it will stay in the garden.

My Little Tea Set is one of my favorite small flowers. It grows well for us, has beautiful form, and sets seeds.

Mayan Warrior has some of the most intense color in the garden.

Muy Caliente! is a wonderful landscape daylily. It produces lots of scapes and seems to be in bloom for a long time. As you might imagine, it's one of Bob's favorites.

Debra, Mayan Warrior is a semi-evergreen tetraploid that blooms midseason. It has rebloomed for us. It's on the short side at 24 inches, but the 6 inch flowers are above the foliage. It has an average of 4 way branching and 20 buds but we have seen it as high as 30 buds. Its parentage is Pumpkin Prince X Gavin Petit.

Muy Caliente! is named for Bob's fondness for Mexican food. At our favorite Mexican restaurant, we are always warned that the plates are 'caliente'. That is what inspired the name. It is taller at 36 inches with 3 branches and 16 buds. We have seen as many as 23 buds. While the bud count is not high, it produces many scapes. When we divided our clump, we pulled 23 scapes (I don't think I got them all). It also reblooms. It is mid late with 5 or 5.5 inch flowers (I can't remember). It is also a tet and is dormant. Its parentage is Apache War Dance X Sea of Cinders.

Nan - Impressive stats on both of those intros! The look of Mayan Warrior appeals to me more, but Muy Caliente! sounds like a great landscape plant. Great work on those two!

I wondered if Spanish names would be appproved. I want to name my big orangey red seedling after a local Mexican restaurant, if I end up registering it.

Debra, I think the only foreign names not allowed are Latin ones because they are used for scientific nomenclature. The exception is common Latin phrases usually from law or the church. Bret Clement uses Latin phrases from law and the church in some of his intros. For example, Habeas Corpus and Salve Regina are two of Bret's intros.

We don't really speak Spanish. We speak restaurant Spanish--just enough to say hello, goodbye, to ask for a napkin or tell the server we don't want sour cream, etc.
