I am trying to decide between wood and tile in foyer and main kitchen.

We are going for a modern (classic/evergreen) muted look. We are going to put beautiful hickory floors in the living rooms and bedroom. For the foyer and main kitchen, we can
Option 1. continue the hickory floors or
Option 2. go with black slate, or basalt stone, or nero marble dark/black marble-like porcelain tile. If tile, should I start hardwood at blue or green line?
Which option would you recommend?

We are considering lighter tile in the mudroom and 2nd kitchen.
