Kitchen cabinet lighting

I'm trying to purchase kitchen cabinet lighting for the top of my cabinets. Can the same lights used underneath the cabinets be used for the tops? I'm confused because I'm not finding much help when searching for cabinet lights for tops of cabinets, only underneath.
