Design wise three arisaemas or Jack in the Pulpit, are not going to do much of anything in a bed of pachysandra that size.

I have never met an arisaema that didn't thrive best in a moist and shady woodland setting. That location does not look very woodlandy to me. You need trees and shrubs here, not just the pachy.

Camellias would be pretty as a backdrop for astilbe and foxglove to add color

Well like I said, there are already some trees nearby that I planted and they are still small, in a few years they will shade that bed out. That stick you see on the far right side of the second pic is a tree and is only 10 ft from the pachysandra. Japanese maple also behind the picture. I was originally thinking of planting my chamaecyparis obtusa seedling in the pachy bed but thought it would be too tight with the fence and the 2 nearby trees. Will it somehow still work you think?

Camellia sounds nice, its sheltered with the fence but area gets blasted by wind in the winter. Also near 2 giant silver maples so not sure if camellias would survive that?

Looks like either my hinoki seedling or Japanese black pine seedling will go there… near a silver maple so needs to tolerate some dryness. Just don’t know if the falling conifer needles would be an issue for the groundcover.

Not a concern. Many people mulch with conifer needles. And they will not accumulate to the degree that they might smother any groundcover anyway. GC's like pachy or vinca are commonly used under conifers for this reason.

Try a bunch of Actaea Racemosa. You could put in some tall meadow rue, too.

I hate to be a purveyor of doom and gloom, but, but you are aware that Pachysandra is susceptible to boxwood blight, right? It only disfigures them, but I would still dissuade people from new plantings. Have you seen attractive looking plantings of it near you? Down here in MD/VA/DC, even before the blight, it was always a bit dubious as a groundcover to me. Aggressive, but at the same time, seemed to need just the right conditions and soils to look good. They will spread into sunny areas and then look washed out. YMMV.

They’ve already got blight since last year. I’ve somehow been able to control it by spraying and removing infected leaves by hand routinely. Of course the lesions keep appearing but not a lot of stems have died compared to when I first noticed the disease. Regardless, I love pachysandra and they are very common here in NJ. Out of the many I saw whether they are in residential homes, arboretums, or my workplace, I’ve only seen one other case of blight. Usually they are happy and lush around here

What do you think of a few kerria japonicas in the pachysandra bed? I know they have a cascading habit, will it work for this bed? I just think the hinoki will get too big because I have other trees very nearby and they’ll end up growing into each other

I have Jack in the Pulpits growing randomly on my wooded lot..I didn't plant them and I don't disturb them..

I agree with Christopher and sah67..I don't think they'll make a statement surrounded by pachysandra..I'm not sure they would do well in your bed..it's not as "wild" as my setting..

last summer I removed the pachysandra that was growing with some hosta..the pachysandra was here when I moved in..I've cut it back often..I planted the hosta and eventually the pachysandra was smothering them..I didn't get it all 😂..a couple of days ago I saw the cutest tiny pachysandra stems coming up..

I think Annabelle hydrangeas would look nice in your bed..

I see no reason why Kerria wouldn’t grow there. They're pretty bulletproof. Personally I prefer the single flowered species rather than the garish orangy yellow double.
