rouge I only tried paperwhites once. I had great success with them (probably beginner's luck lol) but imo they smelled so bad I never bought them again! I'm sorry you didn't have success with your batch. It's disappointing to spend the money and time and effort and then have no blooms!

I tried paperwhites perhaps four times, with excellent success, but like diggerdee, find they stink too much to have. I don't grow them anymore.

Oh no! If it helps any, you’re not the only one with bulb failures: I put 2 pots of tulips where it’s too cold (still trying to find that perfect spot) and they froze and turned to mush.

Been there and done that (frozen bulbs). I don't mess with it anymore, I'm happier to just plant them and let them bloom on Nature's schedule.

Like others, the smell made paperwhites a one time only venture for me.

I thought I recall that there is a variety of PW that are less...."fragrant"?

I found some bulb vases, and tried one Paperwhite bulb for the first time, experimenting with a bulb vase. I got 5 stems from one bulb, but no flower stems at all, and then the leave tips turned brown. I thought they were supposed to be very easy.

I think I figured out the problem. I set the bulb vase next to a southern window to get lots of Winter sun, and the water in the vase really heated up quite warm by the sun. So maybe they flower better in cooler temps.

I grow mine in an unheated glazed porch/conservatory. Never any trouble with flowering and the more intense notes of the scent are kept out of the living areas.

It has been a long time since I grew any bulbs indoors, but paperwhites did well back then.

I found that I had to avoid hyacinths, because while they did well, I'm violently allergic to them.
