wallpaper accent wall?

Hi! I’m thinking about putting wallpaper on the wall behind my dining table. I’m currently adding base cabinets, wine fridge, and white quartz countertops on that same wall. My lowers are navy blue. I’ll add a picture of my kitchen on other side of room so you get a sense of the room. I love geometric patterns but I don’t want it to be too busy. Any ideas on wallpaper? Is peel and stick any good or should I do more traditional application? Thanks!! (I’ve included a couple wallpapers I thought were pretty but I’m open to suggestions)

If the TV is staying, I say no to wallpaper. I just spoke to a wallpaper installer about peel-n-stick paper. He claims it is difficult to hang because you must peel the entire piece off the straighten or get creases out. Unlike pasted wallpaper which can slide somewhat due to the wet paste

If you're not a pro at installing wallpaper, the cleanness of peel & stick makes up for not being able to slide it. It's still easier.

I've done both, and would prefer to install peel & stick any day. But traditional wallpapers can be much better quality. Peel & stick tends to look kinda vinyly and cheap unless it's a mural or something, and then it looks like a mural. :P And actually a mural could be a lot of fun here.

    Be sure to get samples.

Is the TV staying? I'd do something very dark to minimize it.

You spoke to a wallpaper installer who gets paid for installing wallpaper lol peel and stick is easy and when you want to change, removes easily. If your guy is peeling the backing off of the entire strip all at once, he’s doing it wrong. I dont know how well it sticks if you have textured walls. Im a sucker for navy and white, I love what youre doing. Make sure you post an after picture.

Not sure that wallpaper would be my first choice. Maybe apply lath strips to the wall in a geometric design and then paint it.

Or strips of ledge wood on the wall would add a nice texture.

Beverly—you blew my mind with the lath strips in a geometric pattern. Looks cool. Would you recommend I paint that area white or navy if I went that direction?

Fori- what type of mural would you do? Also an interesting idea!

    Thanks guys

The color is your choice but I think the TV wall will look better if the paint color selected is a medium to dark color and not white.

Literally dozens and dozens of things you could do.

I like the wall trim accent wall. or some shiplap, but a more modern type of shiplap. with sconces. like this one

    vertical planks

wood trim. any design, any color

    stained wood

    vertical slat wood

    wallpaper

BTW, may I suggest 1 or 2 wood shelves under your sconce in the kitchen? I think it would really look a lot better.

go to a lumber yard, get a white oak 1" or 2" X6 board, cut it to size, float it on the wall (or get some brackets )

Thanks for the suggestions on the wood shelves under sconce. I considered that but decided I was going to hang some of my friends art there instead. I haven’t hung it yet because I’m scared to hang it on the tile 😬

I know shiplap gets a lot of hate but I find it so appealing!! This is a tough choice. Currently narrowed down to white shiplap or the following wallpapers….(I’ve also got the well prepped for these 2 gold wall sconces fyi)

My husband is an old school paperhanger/painter (We have Gracie wallpaper panels in our living room - google it - is is worth seeing) and he will tell you peel and stick is ridiculous. It may be because he considers himself a craftsman but he dislikes it and won't hang it.

aimee, either option will look fine. pick one! if you don't like the peel and stick, do the other

I like the shiplap. More calming and relaxing to the eye. I think it blends in better with the rest of your home

Samples are up! Still deciding between white shiplap, the wallpaper with white background, or the wallpaper with the navy background. What do you guys think?

I really like the darker one

There is a shiplap wallpaper. This is a Lowes peel and stick.

Blue one. The circles aren't "enough" and I think white shiplap would be the same - not enough difference from your current paint to be an accent wall.

Hang your art on the tile with 3M command strips--no muss no fuss. Love Beverly's idea--but it is more of a commitment. The wall paper could be removed/swapped out when one grows tired of it a lot easier than any wood application.
