When to Prune Limelight Hydrangea in zone 7b

It says to prune in late winter/early spring. I prune my roses and muscadines in mid February. Is this too early to prune the Limelight? It has gotten so big and needs to be brought back in bounds. I pruned out about 4 feet 5 or so years ago but don't remember when I did it. It was at a good time--had lots of blooms and wasn't floppy. I need to start keeping a calendar--my mind is going.

Any time between now and early April. If you leave it much later, you risk cutting off growth that would support flower buds.

Generally I wait until I see new leaf buds forming, which is right now on several of my hydrangeas (haven't checked them all).

Thank you. I started today. I have buds opening on the variegated hydrangea--I hope they don't get pinched. They are a little ahead of themselves. The robins and bluebirds are back so I am looking forward to spring.
