Window placement issue – need help

Hello! I plan to add a bath to my bedroom, which means losing a window. So my plan is to add a new window on the opposite wall of the bedroom.

The way the house is constructed makes placement of a new window in that room rather awkward. The bedroom is directly above a family room with an existing patio door, and so ideally the new window would be center aligned to that patio door. This would look fine from the exterior. As for the interior, because there's a stairwell, the window would not be centered on the bedroom wall and when the door to the room is open, the window would be partially obscured and would look odd.

If I center the window to the bedroom wall, the windows will not be aligned from the exterior. Is this a big no-no? What if a small window is added to the stairwell to balance things out a bit? I'm not quite sure what to do and am hoping you fine folks who read this might have some thoughts. Thanks! (Pics below.)

I need to see the windows on the rest of the house please .IN no way does that tiny window need to be there at all no matter what else you do.

I actually like the two window scenario. I like having natural light in a stairwell. The way you drew it it looks like it is too tall - the bottom looks like it might be too close to the fascia and downspout. It depends on how the windows are trimmed on the rest of your house. The trim around the slider is pretty narrow. Whatever it is, make sure you have room for it before you order a window if you end up going that way. The reason Patricia wanted to see your other windows is because your new window should be in a style and shape consistent with your existing windows. Is a large rectangle consistent with the other windows? Is it going to be operable?

What elevations is this? Back?

Two windows would ameliorate not having the bedroom window centered over the door, but I would want the two windows to be more related to each other.

Also consider centering the window between the edge of the open door and the corner, not on the entire wall.

If this is the back of your house, do what pleases you from the inside .

@threers Yes, this is the back, but we live in the hills and some of the other houses in the neighborhood from the streets above can see the back of our house. I don't know if that makes a difference.

@palimpsest Your suggestion is similar to what I was thinking – I also thought about centering the window between the open door and end of wall as well :-)

The original house was built in 1949 and has paned steel casement windows with minimal trim (one of the few charming features of this otherwise non-descript house). This part of the house shown in the photos is an addition from the 70's, and has slider type windows. So unfortunately it's not uniform throughout, but the front of the house has all original casement windows (with the exception of one window which I hope at some point to replace and match to the original style).
