Design Dilemma Bathrooms

Barn door or swing out door

When adding a bathroom to our daughter’s bedroom, we originally planned for a barn door for the bathroom because I thought the door opening into the room was going to overlap with the bathroom door potentially. the picture below shows how the bedroom door opens into the room, the opening on the right is to the bathroom and the door on the left to the closet. Now I am second guessing the barn door choice. Should I put a traditional door on the bathroom that opens out like the closet door does? it can’t open into the bathroom because it’s too shallow for that direction.

Why not wait and not put up any door?

I live alone and can’t remember the last time i shut the door in my master bath. 🤷‍♀️ Luckily the door opens to dead space which is next to the wall of a framed closet so having it open all the time doesn’t impact functionalty or aesthetics.

Barn doors don’t provide much privacy for shared spaces. They are noisy and a bit cumbersome to use.

If yiur daughter feels the need for more privacy, you can put a lock on the bedroom door or put up the door she wants.

I would put a door just like the closet door, or a pocket door, but that is more work at this point.

I’d skip the barn door and use the same type of doors that you already have.
