Thank you all for the comments. The room is pretty much square but has french doors that open to a screen porch behind present table and a patio sliding door to right side of this table. With the present oblong table, it makes it hard to get around the table. And when french doors are fully open, (which we do often in nicer weather) the french doors hit the chairs in front of the doors. I have measured and even put a 60 inch round rug where new round table would go (centered under raised square celing). I also placed 6 chairs around this 60 inch rug. Clearance is much better on all sides

The pendants were my only concerns... A round table will work much better for our needs and will be delivered next month

What a beautiful outdoors in view you have ! On paper, I thought one pedant would not be enough for a 60” table. However, after seeing your photo, I think you could make it work. It is just that the location of the ceiling junction would need to be moved. I think two would look awkward and three of that particular fixture would be too large. What other lighting is in the room?

Thank you for your reply as well as your sweet comment. We love our home. It was actually a past Parade home but the dining room has always been too tight — especially with our old (45x76 inch oblong) table and the french doors open. Our home is very open/open concept, and we sit on an acre in the country… The tray (is that what this type ceiling is called?) also has the possibility of being lit. In addition, we have a lamp on the last shorter row of kitchen cabinets, so no, the pendant(s) are not the only source of light in the area. I always knew I’d need to move the light(s)…. i was just not sure if the current pendants might work, and if so, would one or two pendants be best. (FYI, a larger version of that same pendant is in our entrance way.) Also, the wall to the left of the current table area is a half wall. On the other side of that wall, is a great room and sunroom — all vaulted, so again, very open and airy.

I agree that the pendant is pretty substantial looking and very likely one, if centered over your new round table, will look fine. I can see that possibly moving the 2 much closer together might work, but probably would be too much. As long as you do have sufficient light with the one fixture, it should fine.

Since the fixture(s) need to be moved to center maybe you can play with them to see if 2 together is overkill. I definitely think 3 would be way too much.

So many of you have been helpful — thank you!!! Knowing you want 30 inches around a table for chairs, I ordered an 8 foot round rug for the (soon to be here) 60 inches/5 feet round table. We have a smaller family but will have 4-6 chairs at table most times for cozy conversations over meals, family game nights, etc.

I also wondered if i went two pendants could i somehow unite them — maybe with garland, coordinated chain, etc? Or, if i went with one pendant, could i bolster the appearance of it — somehow making it seem a bit bigger to be more proportional to the 60 inch round table? Again, garland or…? For other lighting, I do have a 14 inch lamp on last kitchen cabinet and candles on back shelving racks. I could go to a 20 inch lamp on cabinet, and again, tray ceiling does light up.

I had already posted a picture the other day, but here it is again. Also, regarding potentially sliding my two pendants together, i just found this other fixture (pic 2, obviously) on Wayfair. It is the same manufacturer as my pendants BUT here, the two pendants are in fact combined into one fixture.

Honestly, i think i would prefer my same pendants butted together (if i really need two) vs this combined unit. (Especially for another $800! Ha!) Thought showing you all this other fixture might help you envision me sliding my two pendants together over the 60 inch round table though. Sliding pendants together would be 18+18 so a unit that is 36 inches. Just seems i might be able to get away with one pendant... Of course the third option is a new fixture al-together, but yes, I

was hoping i didnt need to do that.

I would say with a round table you should only use one of these as they already seem kind of large in the space., but yes you can put both on one canopy, not side by side but staggered.

Thank you! I'm really inclined to just use one — centered on the 60 inch round table. The tray does light up and I can also place a larger (similar style) lamp on last row of cabinets. (Lamp there now is only 14 inches.) Round table that is coming is solid wood and a truly beautiful piece... Of utmost importance too, I definitely do not want the light(s) to overpower that room — or obstruct any of window/door views.

I agree I think one would be ample in the space, not to overpower the room itself.

also have you thought about a glass table top? I would also consider no rug in the space to make it feel larger. im also wondering if the width of 60 inches instead of 45 is going to impede the door?

Thank you again. I am absolutely set on the table I ordered. It is 60 inch round, solid wood (to match light(s) and chairs) and gorgeous. I have an 8 foot round rug I also plan to use. A little history…

Before deciding on a round table of this size, I removed present table and chairs from room. I placed a 60 inch rug — I had from years ago, as a table “template”. I then placed 6 (and even 8) chairs around template rug. Even with 8 chairs, the room was easier to navigate and looked roomier than with the pictured/present oblong table. Perhaps this is because the room is more square.

Finally, if the round table is centered under the tray and 6 chairs are positioned properly, the French doors can be fully open... The new table is a single pedestal so chairs can really scoot under it. The present table had two large end pedestals that necessitated that chairs couldn't go far enough under top. Hope that makes sense! :)

The only reason I came to Houzz was to ask for opinions on lighting for above the 60 inch round table.

You need a single fixture, please, Not two of anything. Lighting need not "Match:, It need only be compatible in the space with other lighting..........About 30 inches wide

You don't need a round rug, and you are crowding your space with the shelf units. .........a better look by far, without BOTH those things. Sorry...... but try LESS and you will find you have MORE result. Design is editing. The table is plenty of presence , and a rug in that space? All it does is make work and visually shrink a small space. Lighter, less upholstered chairs would help as well.

Yes, I realize you did not ask.........: ) But it just appears very choked, and you love a lovely view beyond. .......take advantage of it.

Did you end up with 2 light fixtures over your round table? Or was the one 18” enough? Can you post a photo?
