    hello friends,

I am in need of your suggestions and ideas . how can i add a curb appeal to my front yard.

You can let the very new plantings grow and mature. You can add some seasonal color to help fill in in the meantime. Or add some groundcovers (too much bare mulch showing).

Other than being a very new landscape, there is not much calling out for improvement.

What do YOU think is lacking?

What kind of groundcover can i plant?

I wanna place a tree in the corner , but i am really confused on what kind of tree will give a nuce appeal?

Where you are located will determine what can be planted. You might want to consider a Japanese maple, redbud, crabapple or crape myrtle for a small tree (location dependent) and there are more types of groundcovers than you can shake a stick at!! Visit your local nursery or garden center to see what they suggest.

    I am in zone 6.

I think you have a good start. I might have put the boxwood (or whatever the three bushes are on the left side) closer to the house and put the Hosta (?) in front.

How about adding a bird bath?

hello tfitz1006, those are the boxwoods, behind the boxwoods are hydrangeas.

I think I might swap the boxwoods and hydrangeas myself. Boxwoods are more like foundation plants, and I typically like to put them closer to the foundation (not too close, though). A ground cover will help, and you can also plant bulbs to give you some springtime color - tulips, daffodils, etc.

Dense bush. Flowering might 'show' better seen against/ in front of dense green [rather than brick] ... ?

I would paint the front door for more curb appeal.

Amy, what paint color should i try? would i have to paint the garage door as well.?

Landscaping involves placing the home in a setting so we really need to see a head on shot of the entire house including some space on either side. However, it does appear that the path to the front door and the little step are much too narrow. At the very least, the path/step should go all the way to the left side of the porch where it meets the house.

I agree with above...letting the items mature a bit...because some of the plantings will get big over time. SO be careful not to overdo it right away. I think you need an edger - small stones or something to line the mulched area. I dont know what your house numbers look like - maybe swapping those out for some newer more updated ones always helps. Also - can you add a sconce (hard wired) to the front door space? Also a fun new lounge chair or seat and side table always feels more inviting!

Is it too late to get the landscape fabric out? That’ll be a pain in the future. And do you know the name of the Hydrangeas? For most cultivars there isn't going to be enough room where they are planted.

No need to paint the garage door. You're not trying to make it a focal point like the front door.

Your landscape will fill in nicely. This shows your landscape in a few years. I added 3 potted plants:

Personally i wouldn't do a ground cover. My experience has been that it takes over and once the plants are mature as Dig Doug's Designs show, it's not needed and the contrast of the mulch that does show is nice.

I think all you need is time and a few potted plants to fill in until the plants mature.

Instead of traditional ground cover, you can put in some groups of smaller, low growing plants like heuchera, some sedums, and salvia lyrata to fill in until the bushes get bigger. I have all three in my zone 5-6 yard.

For door color I would go with a deep blue/gray. Maybe pull a color from the darker bricks.
