Different kitchen countertops.

i am starting a remodel of my kitchen. Cabinets will be painted Chantilly Lace, white perimeter countertops and Taj Mahal countertop on island. There will be some left over, i have a built in hutch and was wondering if it would look ok to use Taj Mahal ciuntertop on it? The hutch is on the end of the wall with the refrigerator in between it and the kitchen cabinets. Thanks!

IMO wait until you can get new cabinets to replace those very dated ones and the bonus your storage will increase a lot. IMO quartzite is an expensive materil and not a good choice in a dated space . I also do not like fake plastic "stone" mixed with real.IMo the floors and the choices you ar emaking do not work together either

Answering the original question: I think that you can use the extra Taj Mahal on the hutch, since it doesn't abut the countertops that will be white.

I wouldn't worry about whether the cabinets are "dated" as such, but painting them will be a very big project in itself. It would be prudent to think about how long you would keep them before committing too much time or money.

Not everyone can replace an entire kitchen. Chantilly Lace is my favorite white and, although painting cabinets is time consuming, I think you will like the result. Taj Mahal will work with your floors and brighten everything. Sure, add it to the hutch, which I assume you're also painting. Good luck!

My husband is a painter, and has two employees, thank goodness! The oak cabinets were very expensive when we built our house 16 years ago and with the cost of lumber right now i’m sure replacing them right now would be outrageous! i know the cathedral ones that i have are very dated. i’ve seen numerous kitchens with these cabinets painted online and they look so much better than what i have now. Most people are trying to talk me out of painting them saying they are gorgeous but they’re not to me. 😀 Thank you!!

I will be replacing the floor as well, just haven’t decided with what yet. i have hardwood in the living area but don’t want that in kitchen. Another decision!!

    That's what matters most.

If your leftover tan mahal is large enough, definitely have it trimmed to fit the hutch. I also use leftover counter material as a top for a rolling cart or a finished-edge slab to hold my shopping list pad, a mug with pens and pencils, and the salt and pepper shakers.

I refaced an oak kitchen and got a lot of comments like yours. “They’re so nice.” “They’re custom. Why change them?”
I refaced the room to SW Creamy, new countertops and extended my hardwood floors to the kitchen.
Do what makes you happy . If you could get new doors that would update the room completely, but painting alone will change the room dramatically.

Chantilly lace may be too white for both Taj Majal and the existing floors. Maybe check other softer/creamier whites.

The slab actually has quite a bit of white in it. i took a paint sample with me, it was beautiful!

I like that you're choosing to keep the cabinets. Like RTHawk said, be sure to compare sample swatches of your paint color next to large samples of BOTH countertop choices. View them in the kitchen, during the day and at night, so you can see how they look in that lighting.

You are mixing plain white counters along with Taj Mahal? honestly, I can't imagine that working out well. I like mixed counters, but only if there's a contrast. these two sound like too close of a color match -- plus the fact that you're doing white cabinets as well. Is there any way you can afford to use Taj Mahal for all counters? Or consider it for the perimeter (including hutch), and a butcher block island. Or consider a different, more budget friendly material for everything so they can all match.

IF you do proceed with your current countertop choices, then no, I don't think it would be a good idea to put Taj Mahal in the hutch. I think the hutch should be counted as a "perimeter" counter. Make those all match, and have the Taj Mahal stand out as the "statement" counter.

This is a pic of the Taj Mahal Leathered slab. it has quite a bit of white in it

I'm sure it does. But did you mean that the perimeter countertops will be white? Do you mean plain white? I can't see that working, it all sounds too stark and plain overall. but I could be wrong about that. Do you have a rendering of your new kitchen design, or an inspiration pic?

mixing counters can be tricky. here are a couple of different kitchens with mixed counters and white cabinets. note how they used black for the perimeter. I think you need some contrast. not sure what to recommend though. are you keeping any of the brown tones? what colors will your new floors be? are you changing the backsplash?

I don’t see cathedral style doors in the pictures, I see raised panel with partial overlay and those will look fine and updated once painted. Heavily grained wood is not everyone’s cup of tea. IMHO, the hutch is built into the perimeter and should have the same granite as the other perimeter countertops and the island should have it’s own unique granite.

Black [appliances] help grey counter fit. But black sink sits in the middle of it all, so I wonder if stainless steel sink would blend in, and reduce 'visual' contrasts a little.
