My husband built this decking to make it easier for me to access my windowbox, but I immediately cluttered it up with pots..

I love seeing a "clutter" of planters/pots on a deck.

Yup, that is 15x5 feet balcony facing mostly north with a little NE angle.

@getgoing100_7b_nj I saw that skyline and knew where you were. LOL. Nice view! Your balcony garden is amazing. I grew up in a highrise and my mother and I could never get anything to survive because of the constant beating from the winds--our balcony was pretty high up.

Anna, I got this place mostly for the view! :) It never gets old - a golf course, hudson/NY bay, lady liberty, downtown NYC in one frame -from almost all of the windows and the balcony! It is so worth living without a proper yard or two for gardening. Plus, it keeps my gardening addiction in check. My balcony isn't really that high (4th floor) but it is open and in a really open corner with nothing to obstruct the winds except the opposite building. The winds are terrible, though probably not half as bad as in a high rise.

I grew up in the Bronx and was able to see the GW bridge and Macy‘s fireworks from the balcony, the building was on a hill so we were around 17 stories up. My mom now lives on the Palisades, talk about WIND!

Every plant that @tapla (mid-Michigan, USDA z5b-6a) touches looks like it would be a cover photo in a book about that genus or species. Definitely a root whisperer. :)

Anna, those building on the pallisades are really something. I lived for a while on the upper east side close to the east river. Couldn't bring myself to leave the waterfront after that.
