Replacement Windows… need help!

I’m in the market for replacing 14 windows in a 1983 ranch style home just north of Austin, TX. I’ve looked at RBA (way too expensive), Pella (decided against Lifestyle due to potential problems w/ this window in Texas), SoftLite Vinyl (not convinced on the look- got quotes for $17k-$27k), and Marvin Elevate casement windows (leaning towards this one). The Marvin quote is for replacing what are currently 14 windows- quote is for 11 (going back w/ casements in the front of home & they are calling this one window each). The quote is for $23k. I have no frame of reference as far as cost, but this still seems high? Can anyone please give me some insight on my choices here? I’ve done TONS of research & leaning towards Marvin Elevate but having a hard time making a decision. Thanks in advance!

Seems high but the details are vague. I

I would try to get a few more bids with the Elevate.

$1600 and change per window doesn't seem out of line at all for that product installed these days. Could be downright cheap if its a full frame install with some added product options, interior and exterior trim replacement, etc. The fact that its priced similar to vinyl options and RBA must be much higher (based on your comments) would support that as well.

I do agree with the thought about getting another bid on the same product for comparison if you aren't sure... The current indicators point to it being a decent price IMO, but again, doesn't hurt to compare.

If by some chance this is a product only price (no install), then yes, DEFINITELY look elsewhere.

No added options. Just windows + basic install. No trim work involved, upgraded glass or any other options. I was actually pretty shocked by the vinyl quotes too! I was thinking $12-15k from the research I’ve done. I think prices for any trade work in the Austin area are inflated due to increased demand. Plus, supply chain issues & inflation of materials are affecting everything too. Just wondering what the experts might say!

Any pricing that you find via research these days is worthless unless its very recent. Prices in this industry (and many others) have gone up exponentially over the past two years, and unfortunately I'd expect that trend to continue (its not just in your area). We used to see price increases once every year or two from manufacturers, and now its several per year. There is a similar phenomenon in skilled labor.

Might things slow down at some point, certainly, but I would not hold my breath for a decrease.

Yep. Stopped holding my breath for a new fence & lumber prices as well 🤦🏼‍♀️ and moving isn’t an option either! Might just get one more quote then go for it. Thanks for your insight…

Options make a big difference in the price of a window. Here is the same sized Elevate window priced 12 ways: (No Labor)

What would these options be? We weren’t upgraded on anything as far as I’m aware?

Jamb, Glass, Grids, Interior Finish, & hardware finishes.

Glass options such as low-E coatings , tempered, off-set laminated glass, grids a d more. color options, trim, in and out, nail fins, hardware, prefinshed or not, jamb extensions, mulling options . I am sure I missed a few.

We can also go into installation options.

Okay! This was helpful. We did opt for a color option & low E glass (which I thought was standard?). No grids or other trim/jamb or mulling options (that I am aware of).
