Small weird windows

My guest room is on the first floor of the end unit of a townhome row. The windows are obviously for privacy, but are a little awkward. thoughts on window treatments? Adjacent to the right is a sliding door to the patio, with curtains there. i feel like roman shades might make the windows look even smaller.

I would create the illusion of them being larger by trimming them out. Then I would do a blackout lined Roman shade mounted trim width, well above the window. When open have the bottom right below the top of the window glass- basically it will look like a much larger window for which the shade is partially down. The blackout fabric is key.

Do you think i go ask high as the curtain rod on the other side?

I would probably do an inside mount pleated/cellular shade the same color as the wall. I wouldn't do anything to feature or bring attention to them, but try to make them as unobtrusive as possible. A shade will almost disappear if you ever want to open them but will also not bring attention to them when closed.

Love your room! Love the colors!

I would also probably do what @olychick has suggested.

We have a similar setup (ours are higher up though) and we used inside mount blackout cellular shades

I have a basement guest room with a small window (it's closer to the ceiling) and after having a curtain that just fit the window for years, I decided to try the full panel trick. I mounted the curtain rod close to the ceiling, hung two full-length panels and could not believe the difference. Not only did it give the illusion of a normally sized window but the effect of the standard length drapes on the feel of the room was remarkable.

When I saw your wall my very first thought was to mount a long curtain rod and have a wall of drapes behind the bed.

Something along the lines of this:

Treat them just the way the slider is done. Hang the rod the same height at the slider rod.

Also move the art over the bed...they will help balance the wall.

I love that look in a bedroom it also gives a feeling of luxury BTW the drpes I see look a bit skimpy the panels should add up to at least 2.5 x the width of the rod or wider

If possible, I’d frame per picture below and rattan blinds would really suit your room. If interested, suggest moving the pictures above bed and adding lower, wider and more earthy lamps.

I think the windows are cute. But they do need to be trimmed out. And artwork needs to be above the bed and not down near the bedside stands.

Funny how we all see things. I like the pictures where they are, it looks unique and personal. But I frequently am swimming against the tide here. :)

Thanks to all! has anyone ever trimmed out windows themselves? how difficult is that? id say im beginner\intermediate in the DIY skills arena…

I’ll bet there are plenty of tutorial videos online. Home Depot will trim wood pieces, if you don’t have the saws you need.

The precise angles are no fun, but shouldn’t be too hard if you have intermediate skills and follow a tutorial. Also consider how comfortable you are with doing a more intricate upper frame, which will really enhance the look and help balance window treatment.

I think it you like a luxurious look, go for the full wall of curtains as others have suggested. Won't be cheap but I'd shop sales at Ballard, Pottery Barn, etc. To me, though, with the curtains on the slider it just might all be a bit much. I like a cleaner look and would do the wooden shutters as Jinx has suggested. I would also move those small square paintings, it just looks too symmetrical to me. Maybe you can stack them on another wall in the room? I'd also add an accent color to all the brown, maybe a light blue in the pillows? Looks like a lovely spot for a guest. The bed is lovely. Go for color when you think about artwork in this room.

Be sure new rods on the same height with existing ones.

what about framing around the windows?

Drapes and matching Romans can work well. I'd keep them stationary on such small windows, and mounted at the same height as the drapery.
