Help me decide on pendants for over my island

We renovated our kitchen recently and we are down to a few details. my island is 8.5 ft long & we have electric for 2 pendants (the pendants in the pics below are my old ones ) we have gold hardware on my island and black on the white perimeter cabinets. i will post collages of pendants I am looking at….I am really having hard time and don’t want to screw this up- I am trying to incorporate some gold since our island hardware is gold. what do you think? I picture 2 large pendants.

I think your kitchen is a pretty busy space, so I'd try to keep the pendants simple -- skip the cages and complicated ones. I like the top-right teardrop, or maybe 4th down on the left. Simple, and give some light in all directions, not just down.

I like #6 an #8 from top, left to right, because of the black and gold incorporated in them. Although 6 is more complicated I don’t think it’s too busy. Beautiful job on your kitchen!

I would do black as you don’t see any of the gold hardware unless you are on the sink side. Maybe an open geometric or round. I’d avoid anything that is hard to dust off, like the basket weaves.

I love the look of glass but heard its a nightmare to upkeep in thr kitchen?

I recognize the tzus from Instagram lol! Also glass is fine in a kitchen. I dust mine once a week, no big deal.

I agree with everyones’ comments. Like acm mentioned, I would keep the pendants very simple so they kind of fade into the background of the white cabinets. I wouldn’t do gold for the reason Tracy said of not really seeing any gold from the main view of the kitchen. A touch of black to tie in with the cabinet hardware and faucet would look nice.

I think either of those pendants posted above are great examples and would look perfect for your style kitchen. I feel like kdarrigo though about loving the all glass look but worry about the cleaning. I saw this pendant and thought it might work because it is looks like it has a hint of the grey colors in you gorgeous countertops. Are they fantasy brown? I love your whole kitchen!

@rebunky how did you do that? and where are these pendants from ? very nice! maybe i have not decided on pendants because I have been looking at the wrong kind. can you link these??? I wanted to incorportate a warmer element to go w/the chairs , the gold hardware, even my cafe cooktop has gold knobs. but this looks great- also my counters are river blue , a quartzite /dolomite , I really love it- i wanted to the quartz everyone else seems to be doing, but my husband really wanted stone again, I’m very happy with it! thank you!

I wonder if going with a warmer finish would be too busy or a nice balance? Hmmm...

First is from Rejuvenation, second from Barn Light Electric. Third is a pendant a bit closer to the island color, the Louis Poulsen Toldbod from the Finnish Design Shop. It looks more blue in some photos:

First off I love your kitchen! It all looks great- we live on a farm too! We have farmland for miles around us - our home is on 2.5 acres, we have lots of chickens, and we have our dogs- we garden in the spring and summer but on all sides of us the farmers are busy from April to fall.

And thank you so much for the pics with the lights! It helps so much to see these visuals- I know you said they got bad reviews but do you mind sharing a link? I’d love to check them out! I really love that look too- something I didn’t even consider! You are giving me totally fresh ideas- I haven’t considered anything else because I was so stuck on incorporating gold.

Our floors are Brazilian teak hardwood that we installed when we built this house in 2004- they are still in good condition so we didn’t replace them during the remodel!

And as far as stools go I regret getting ours so quickly instead of waiting. I just needed function ASAP in my kitchen after this remodel!

I truly don’t know why this has been so hard for me to figure out the details like light fixtures! When we built this house it took just one trip to Lowes and I had everything picked out. I’ve been looking for months!

ok do you think these are too busy? this is another option I think might work.

and these are my fur kids! this was the day our backsplash was getting finished up - took me months to find a tile i liked!

I forgot to @ you @rebunky !!! in my last comment, not sure if you saw it ?

What??? How did you get them all to perfectly pose like that!? They are so well trained. That is just about the cutest thing ever! The photo doesn’t show them unless you click on it. I cannot handle the cuteness!

So of course I couldn’t find the link for that one patina look pendant. It was on that bellacor site. I did find the same one at wairfair. Again not so great reviews.

I tried a mockup with the pendants you found. I like the wood with black and I think it fits the farmhouse style. I am not sure how well they will work as far as task lighting for the island, but it looks like you have plenty of overhead lights.

What do you think? Idk, I may have made them way too big!

    @rebunky

thank you for this! earlier today i went and ordered 3 different pendants:

    The one you suggested :

    and

i am so glad i found them on walmart’s website so i can return them easily if necessary.

and the gold ones are from amazon!

i might hate them all but I’m indecisive and tired of looking!

can you show me what the gold ones will look like? and those black ones ? i believe they are both 12 inches!!!!! so appreciate it !!! thanks for bearing with me!!

And thanks!! my dogs have an IG, we do ads for dog products ! @jerseyshihtzu they are so good for pics!

Ok here ya go! I have fun playing around on my photo drawing app. It helps my brain and hand eye coordination. I will add the photos all in a row so you can compare them better.

Oh and I checked out your instagram page. I think my favorite might be the one named Emme. She looks like she is wearing a black collared shirt and in one of the pictures the expression on her face made me lol!

I am thinking you might end up liking that sort of speckled black one with the gold interior.

I just found this farmhouse style kitchen showing two black pendants with the gold interior. That gold looks pretty!

@rebunky can you believe i still have not made a decision on pendant lights??? i think i have it narrowed down - what do you think of these??

There is a lot going on in the kitchen already. I would skip pendants and use recessed lights above the island.

Bringing more gold color doesn't matter because the gold pulls are on the back side of the island and don't have anything to do with the long view.

We have a whole keeping room/ fireplace area on our kitchen also , we have gold accents on that side as well so it will be carrying through. i have seen people mix metals more than not over the past 5 years and it looks great! @ci_lantro

Oh, so that makes sense about the gold. Still, personally, in that kitchen, I would skip pendants. Between the hood, the cabinets stopping short of the ceiling--which I like, BTW, and the crown moulding, adding pendants would be too much...for me. Because they get in the way of the things that I want to look at.

the cone selection. what are you thinking...2 or 3?

We would like to offer you some variants of pendant lighting. What do you think about it?

The pendants in both of these pics are nice. The blogger replaced the ones in the first pic with the ones in the second pic. I was thinking the white cones with some black might also work in your kitchen. I also like the simplicity.

Hi! Sorry I missed seeing this earlier.

I think along with the ABB club (all but the backsplash) maybe we need to start the ABP (all but the pendants)!

Would you mind sharing a photo of the keeping room? I think it would help to see more of the adjoining space that has more of the gold accents. I am a big fan of mixing metals too.

I can tell you definitely want them to have the gold finish, or possibly a mix of gold, with black and/or white. Hey, at least you are narrowing it down! Haha!

Of the ones you posted above, I think #1 or 4 might work since they are mostly glass and the gold part is subtle. Between those two, I like the shape of the pottery barn one better.

I have sensitive eyes, so I personally couldn’t handle the exposed bulbs. Also, I am super lazy and the glass will need more cleaning. They are very pretty though!

#2 and 4 just don’t feel like they fit your kitchen’s style. Although, I do like how 4 has a mix of the gold, black, and white glass. 5 is just so-so for me.

Here is a mock up of the pottery barn pendant. Of course it would look more see through in real life. Again, sorry if the scale is way off!

I tried this one because it was similar to #4 being a mix of the gold, black, and white, but I think the style works better.

I thought I would try this one since it has the gold you like. I like this style and am always drawn to this one.

This is similar, but in black. I really loved the wavy glass on this one.

Well I sure hope I didn’t just confuse you even more. 😬

Last one! I forgot last night to post the pendant chloebud showed. That’s nice too. Decisions, decisions…

I’ve just scrolled through all the suggestions, and this one from Rebunky immediately put the room into sharper focus. They’re very simple, they repeat the black in the room, and they will never look dated.

@rebunky we finally decided on light fixtures. we replaced the sconces too by the fireplace- ended up with simple glass for pendants:

The fireplace area isnt done- dont pay attention to the dog pocs on the mantle we are not done . we need a rug too! this is in our kitchen, we are also getting a round kitchen table made right now , base will match the antique white fixture we just installed.

@kdarrigo - I LOVE the pendant lights! Do you have a link? THanks!
