I have 4 bushes of Eugene de Beauharnais. One of the three is the original old one. Three of them are doing very well. The one which is not is in a large pot, and during our "water wars" it did not get watered at all. However, I discovered that yesterday, and watered it, and it will live. Need to put it in the ground! One of my very most favorite roses, and the scent is to die for!

Jeri, yours is SO beautiful. I tried it once own-root, and it was PATHETIC, in all ways. Is yours grafted?

Bart -- You nailed it!

I grew it long ago. It only got to about 12 inches tall, and -- far worse -- when we quit spraying, it began to rust worse than any other rose I've ever encountered.

With great sadness, we removed it.

But Kim -- bless his heart -- gifted me with a plant that was grafted to Fortuniana. WHAT A HUGE DIFFERENCE! This plant is aboundingly healthy, and far more vigorous than the O.R. plant ever could be.

In MY conditions, at least, it really must be budded.

Here, mine is smallish but beautiful and seems healthy as an own root plant. I'm sure Jeri's is even bigger and better grafted but I do enjoy mine.

Sheila, if it hadn't been for the rust issue, I'd never have given up that first plant.

1 of my favorite roses for beauty. I also assumed it would be a black spotty mess here so I have never tried but I'm always happy to see other's pictures! yours' is so beautiful.

My own-root one had NOTHING going for it. It seemed unable to hold onto any leaves at all-I seem to remember both rust and BS-couldn't grow at all...it was just impossible.

Yeah -- If all roses excelled on their own roots, no one would bud them.
