That was one of my ideas, however I was wondering if there is a "box" contraption that could be put on the wall that I could just sit the mast in.

No, but it is very specific- a one off type problem that requires a unique solution.

krnuttle- I doubt very much that you will find a pre-made box produced specifically for "protecting drywall from a leaning ship's mast." It's not a common problem.

But you can design one very easily as you are the one with the picture in your mind of how you want it to be.

If you haven't the skills or the tools to fabricate what you want then call a handy man or carpenter and describe it. Draw up your idea so they have some idea about what you are talking about because as of now it's really confusing to try to picture what you are describing.

Anyone who is halfway creative and handy can come up with three solutions just by standing there looking at it with you.

But I really think the space and the mast need to be seen in person or at the very least a photo first.
