A nice deep red (Cranberry) would look good.

I would like to see what the beautiful color of your porch ceiling looks like on the door too.

I would paint it white. It will give the door more presence. A light clean gray or glossy black would also look nice.

Painting blue on porch ceiling is a favorite of mine. It is called haint blue a tradition from the south.

There are many shades of blue used.

I would choose a fresh geranium color a pinkish red.

I agree with houssaon’s suugestion of white or black. Probably white if you’re keeping the current color on the porch ceiling.

Your porch could be quite a statement w/some tweaking.

The lights need to be replaced. they're too light in color and the wrong style.

Consider redoingthe lattice skirt around the porch. (I show you some examples in my next comment)

Since you're redoing the yard, now is the time to tackle that since everything is open.

I would not bring in another gem color (like the red) w/the yellow siding and bright blue ceiling. too many statement colors. Something has give.)

the cranberry is a nice color choice w/the yellow, but you would need to use it elsewhere on your home like they have here, and paint over the blue ceiling. I like it here w/the gray/green accent trim

the haint blue ceiling color is a bit too bold. I'd repaint w/a softer, paler blue

then you could do a soft turquoise on the front door. bring in schoolhouse porch light (paint the medallion a brighter white) and do a diff wall light. (or spray what you have a dark metallic or black)

bring in some potted plants, color and a mat.

a bold canary yellow would also look good.

have you considered painting your wood deck and stairs? it would really spruce up the look. (or, sand what's there and apply a new deck stain)

or if you really want to get creative, use a porch paint in diff colors and stencil on a design : (BTW, this is the shade of blue you want for your ceiling)

if you did a white ceiling you could do a black door, black risers.

consider doing the porch in a gray (and the steps)

you could also use the same black for trim around the windows.

Is your current door solid wood? apply a stripper and take it down to wood, stain and seal

the natural wood looks great against the yellow. You need to redo your decking in this same shade or lighter. Whatever you choose, the porch deck and stairs need some love.

get some diff address numbers. for one, you can't even see yours, and two, the placque w/the light and mailbox just make it look too cluttered. Get simple single numbers and hang those

or, get a mailbox like this w/the numbers painted on it. Notice the school house light on this porch. white ceiling w/the dark gray trim work. wood door.

some other ways to spruce up the front door area.

If you can refinish your wood porch deck to something like this tone, the yellow and blue would look so good

Since you are in the process of landscaping, think about painting your door a color to match your flowers or shrubbery. I always love the look of a house that ties into it’s surroundings.

also, if you can replace the skirting, do it now.

If you need to keep the storm door, then I would paint the interior door to match it. With the nice porch protecting the entry, you might eliminate the storm and then you could go with another color for the door. I think a pretty stain would look good, and I would upgrade the lantern light to something more era appropriate in style. If you like to have the door open in warmer weather you could install a phantom retracting screen.

wow! i love all of these ideas. i’m going incorporate some and will post my progress. the whole porch needs some TLC!! what do we think of tiling the stair risers? something that says mediterranean (we lived in spain so that’d be fun)

your house says victorian farmhouse,,,so, not sure the spanish tiles would work! maybe do a mosaic table w/them and use that on the porch?

I'm not sure how old your home is, but try to keep it cohesive with its style. If it's an older home, looks at Old House Guy's website. I don't think the tile would be a good idea, though I also love the look. You can add the tile in other ways--hung up like a picture or painting.

Thanks for talking me off the tile ledge. SMART. The skirting is great but we may need to work with what we have this season - paint existing wood and brick white to perk it up a bit.

ok update - painted lattice, removed storm door and painted the door a creamy white to match the gingerbread shingles since i’m keeping the blue roof for now. also removed old house numbers. where should i put new house modern numbers - right side of the door or stairs?

Love that you are going with a pale blue porch ceiling! That is a traditional color for porches especially in the south. It's a calming color.

Place the numbers where they are most visible from the street for emergency responders. They should be well-illuminated.
