Has it been painted?

Make sure they use good quality elastomeric paint, which is formulated for stucco. Dunn Edwards makes a good one.

My father in law has been doing stucco for 47 years, and he is currently finishing up the stucco on our new build. He is an expert in his field and does exquisite work. He put 4 or 5 layers of stucco on before he was done, but the first layer he let sit for about a week so it would cure and crack. That allowed him to go back over everything and then add control joints. This process ensures the stability of the stucco over time.
New stucco shouldn’t crack like that if the mason was skilled.

We've had 2 stucco homes built here in Arizona. It's common procedure for most builders here to come back, after settling occurs, to repair and repaint cracks in the stucco up to one year later as part of their punch list. What does your contract say?

And by the way, if it IS part of the punch list, you'll want to wait to as as close to the end of that one year as you can because you WILL get new settling cracks over time and the builders only come and repair it that one time.
