I would look for a stair runner with some pattern and what are your floors at the stairs on both levels . Some pics are always good . Why are you asking about wool.

What's to be had for good quility wool carpet around you will depend a bit on where you are. Like Canada vs U.S. vs UK tend to be the three most popular countries of posting around here, along with a handful of other nations. So there will be some differences in what you can get where from whom.

We went with a New Zealand wool on our stairs as well as the entire upper floor. You may want to read about its attributes, etc. We could not have been happier, but be sure to invest in a really good under padding, no matter your carpeting choice.

Sorry, it was years ago. Suggest heading to a good retailer that sells NZ wool carpets so you can compare prices, selections, quality, etc.

Patricia Colwell Consulting, I will try to attach photos. We have a 1970's split foyer home, 6 steps up and down. The upper level is currently old carpeting that will eventually be changed out, but not quite yet. The landing, in front of the front door, will be a porcelain tile (looks similar to cement tile) with a dark grey/white vintage starburst pattern. The lower level will be a comfy/cozy carpet going into our family room. We are renovating currently and so we don't have anything installed yet.

I don't like the idea of carpeting from the front door, in case shoes don't get removed. (I'm a nurse and it grosses me out!) We need to stay away from slippery surfaces for the steps as well-no wood, lvp, etc. Berber (looped) is not attractive looking to me, but I could be ok with a very low pile carpet. I would like something that is durable, but I'm most drawn to natural and organic looking which I see in the varigation of wool's fibers. I started to research and as we live in central Iowa, our choices in store are very limited and so I'm also looking online. I'm finding several articles saying wool can be very durable, stain resistant, although needing particular care. (which I'm ok with). I would like one that is worth its cost, VS. one that is cheaply made and not worth it. I would also take any other ideas you might have? thank you!!!

beesneeds- I wondered if this may be the case. I am in the US, but in central Iowa. The local stores are very limited with what they have, So i'm hopeful I can find something online or orderable through a store. Thanks!

I did a quick google of "central Iowa wool carpet dealer" and a bunch popped up. From big box stores to individual dealers of floor materials. So I think you might be able to find something in the center there. You might need to comb through a handful of places to find ones that deal in wool.

Could I also get your opinion on what color we should use? I tend to go more earthy, and would really love something in a tan/jute color, but I’m not sure how that goes with the tile picked? Would coordinating with the dark grey of the tile be best?

yes, we do have dark dirt and definately something to consider with the kids and dog too! good thought!

We used an undyed wool carpet for the downstairs family room and steps and it has been perfect. It was purchased from an independent carpet and broadloom retailer as a remnant at a very good price. The color is a variegated taupe. Has a pattern similar to what BeverlyFLADeziner posted. The lanolin content is high since the wool has not been processed for dying.

I wish I could remember. But do look at undyed carpeting, the natural colors can be lovely. Do call broadloom retailers and ask about remnants, you may find something you will never see on internet.
