Vanity has to be 21” from shower??

Remodeler says our bath vanity has to be 21” by code from the frameless glass shower. I haven’t heard of this before and we have a 94 inch wall that will have the 36” width of the shower and a vanity.

He said I can only use a 36” vanity!

36”+21”+36”= 93” (21 inches of blank space!)

I have seen many vanities right next to the shower glass in photos. The shower door will be at the other end of the shower, so thats not bumping into the vanity. What is the residential code on this, please advise! I would like to get a 48” or 54” vanity instead of just a 36” on that 94” wall. Thanks for your help.

Center of sink has to be minimum 15” from sidewalls. Other than that there are no regulations on relative distance to other objects

Minimum clearances are 21" from the FRONT the vanity to another fixture or obstruction, not the side of the vanity to another fixtures. The side should be 4" away for purposes of cleaning if there is any space or it should touch (the wall, you would not have the vanity side touch the glass enclosure). This second dimension often gets ignored.

Check with your local AHJ to find out what the code is specific to your community. The code where you are is all that matters.

Why don't you have a pony wall built and then the vanity can butt up against the shower and be as wide as possible.
