Hi Toni! I received two notices from Houzz of your replies with their contents. I clicked on the green "Reply" button in both notices and was taken to a screen which stated, "Page not found". And, my inbox is empty. There is no record of your messages on Houzz, just the email notices. So, yes, you can use the messaging but it doesn't appear to be working properly. It's Houzz, so I guess that's to be expected. NOTHING works properly on Houzz. I'm glad we at least now know it's possible to send messages. I can't read them in my inbox nor can I read the old archived ones but the message does come through with the notice.

Okay. Now I need to go check my messages. I know that I haven't been receiving notices and frankly forget to check and see if I have any messages but I don't see any numbers up by my name indicating such.

Wow! I'm glad I checked my see I just got a recent 1. I know I received 1 from someone else last week but I didn't receive notice of this 1. It seems like it comes and goes. I'll have to be more vigilant.

I guess that means you didn't see mine to you Vaporvac in October. What a bummer! Talk to me on HMF??

Mine hasn’t been working properly either. I have missed several attempted contacts from members over the last year or more. I am thinking a megaphone and signal flares might be more effective. Carol

It seems if you tag someone in a post they receive a notice. Surely there are ways to connect with email or direct someone to another platform? So far, I appear to be receiving notices, no messages in my inbox but the message IN the emailed notice, so if you want to connect through here, please include an email address so I can email you from mine.

My problem is that some messages only appear in my OLD inbox, some only appear in the NEW inbox, and some appear in BOTH. It seems to be totally random. But I also don't receive notices here (at least recently) that I have new mail, though I still DO receive email notices. Weird, but not surprising; it *is* "How-uzzlezz" we're talking about.

@fig_insanity Z7b E TN HOW do I find my old inbox? I only find "inbox" and it is stripped bare. NOTHING which previously existed is there. I am receiving email notices of messages and the two click response methods included take me to "page not found". Thanks, Kim

@roseseek Kim, when I go to my profile page ("Your Houzz") and click the "messages" link under my screen name, on the next page under "your inbox" it gives me the option of two clickable links, one for "new inbox", one for "old inbox".

But knowing how changes NEVER appear simultaneously for everyone across the entire platform, but in seemingly random fashion (I'm SURE it's random...they aren't competent enough to plan that much frustration!), I wouldn't be a bit surprised if this is not yet another geographically server-oriented rollout that was not thought through on the part of you-know-whoozz. Everyone eventually may, or may not, end up with the same "improvements" or problems. I suspect we're ALL going to lose the old inbox. In the meantime, it seems there are several different issues, each more irritating than the last. I count a minimum of four mentioned just in this thread.

I can see my old inbox, but only when I get there by clicking on "Your Messages" from the "Your Houzz" drop-down menu. Once I get to my old inbox all of the messages have the same subject line "HU-nnnnnnnnn". I'm not including the numerical digits because I'm not sure if that's like my member number or something.

Strange deal! How come no one from Houzz is chiming in on this conversation to give us guidance?

@fig_insanity Z7b E TN thank you. Damn! I have ONLY "Inbox". No choice of which inbox, simply "Inbox". On that page, the drop down menu allows me to look at inbox, deleted, archived, spam but nothing else. I guess the PM's go to the OLD mailbox, which I can't access, because attempting to respond to the one sitting in the email in my email inbox takes me here. I HATE HOUZZ.

@Tony Kopari thank you. Accessing my messages using your suggested method ONLY takes me to the one inbox. I guess I need to find a way to alter my signature and page to indicate messaging does NOT work so don't message me?

@roseseek Kim, here's a screen shot of the part of my message page with the options for separate inboxes. Note the HUGE proclamation for the "new messaging experience". It's an experience, alright!!!!

@fig_insanity Z7b E TN thank you, John. Did you happen to see the PM I sent you a little while ago asking if you can see a "Message" button on Jemma's page? Here is the only screen I see when entering my messages. The earlier image with the drop down menu is what I see when I click on "Inbox" and EVERYTHING is totally EMPTY.

I remember reading somewhere in the Houzz rules that the private messaging only works between people who "follow" each other. I guess this is designed to avoid spamming.

I see you aren't "following" anyone, and that might be part of the problem.
I've just "followed" you. I sent you a message. Do you see it? If not, you can follow me back so we can test a new message to see if that helps, I think it has to be a mutual follow.

@roseseek Kim, I haven't received your PM, in either inbox, old or new. No message alert here, either. I *am* getting email alerts when you @ me. As for a "message" button on Jemma's page, I don't see one.

@roseseek Kim, it just dawned on me that the folders you say that you have on your message page (even though they're empty!) don't exist on mine. I simply have an old and new inbox, but no folders for deleted/archived/spam messages. Curious-er and curious-er.

@seasiderooftop Something REALLY strange is going on. Kim is followed by about 70 people, and he follows about 16. I JUST SAW THAT ON HIS PROFILE, not 10 minutes ago. I happen to know we follow each other. But NOW, it says he's not following anyone, and is only followed by ONE (you), yet I see a "Message" button on his profile. What the?????????

HA! I still had Kim's "old" page still open. I was right. So where did his followed and followers go? Poof! Into the ether like his messages?

Yes, the "message" option appears even if you aren't following/followed, however it just doesn't actually work unless you mutual follow people.

What may have happened is that @roseseek 's follows counter somehow got reset to none.

So, try re-following people mutually and see if messaging works.

So the issue is with your follower/following counter, that got reset to zero for some reason.

I followed you @fig_insanity Z7b E TN, though it doesn't show on my profile I followed you or Jemma (still no message button but she messaged me!) and seasiderooftop follows me (the ONLY one who shows on my screen, BTW).

@roseseek on my counter, I can see that I follow you, yet it doesn't appear that you are following me.

So it seems that something is broken in your follow counter.

Try messaging Houzz about it. If you scroll down to the bottom of this page, there is a "contact" link. They usually respond within one or two days.

@roseseek Kim, I just sent you an email with two screen shots, of both versions of your followed/following. And MY version never showed you NOT following me, and vice versa. You remained on my list as both followed and following.

@seasiderooftop Neither you nor Jemma show a message button for me, so that statement about it appearing regardless of following/being followed isn't entirely accurate. And while we're on the subject of following, I haven't been able to add anyone in months, no matter how many times I click "follow", lol.

Cue Twilight Zone theme song: Even though my list still/has always showed I was followed by Kim, I just got an alert that....Kim just followed me.

Hmmmm. I get messages from those i dont follow and message them as well....that is if I check my spam file which where they seem to end up these days!😮

@roseseek It's wayyyyyy past needing a new battery. I can't say here what it does need, because they DO have terms of service I might be found guilty of breaking, lol :P

What's really frustrating is I have everything set to allow everyone to message and alert me to everything, so it SHOULDN'T be a setting. The Spam folder is clear, too. Thanks for the idea.

Guess what? I MAY have figured out at least part of the problem! @fig_insanity Z7b E TN, @portlandmysteryrose, @seasiderooftop, @Vaporvac Z6-OhioRiverValley IF you have the on again, off again messaging issues, sign out of Houzz then sign back in. Until about twenty minutes ago, the only inbox I had was the fully blank one I complained about last night with no followers nor following.

After signing out and signing back in...SHAZAM! I guess it reset and cleared my browser? I usually keep this and several other sites signed in as pinned pages on the browser I use for them so all I have to do is open the browser and they appear automagically.

This also appears to have corrected Houzz from notifying me of even my own posts. They never had before, but the last week, if I responded to anyone's post, I received a notice. It appears they aren't notifying me of my post below.

@roseseek Kim, I started to suggest clearing your cookies last night, but since so many people were having different, seemingly unrelated issues, but all pertaining to inbox/notices, I second guessed myself, since 99.999999999% of the time it's a How-uzzlezz glitch. I still think there's an underlying problem with the site's programming, and I'll die on that hill, lol.

And I STILL can't "follow" anyone new.

@fig_insanity Z7b E TN I didn't think to try resetting Houzz by signing out and back in as I have my browser set to not save settings nor cookies, though it does for pinned sites. It's definitely worth a try if you are having any issues with the site. Yes, I agree with you, there is definitely something odd with the site.

m now wondering if my messages being sent to Spam is a Houzz issue rather than an AOL Some get sent there and others go to the inbox. Very strang when they are from the same thread.

When my programmer friends describe the work involved in writing fresh code that not only serves its own purpose but also interfaces functionally with multiple versions of code created by a gazillion other companies over many years, my head explodes. Carol
