how bad is this goof up? counter too white for cabinet

I know there isn’t much I can do, and hopefully the backsplash will help… but wanted to here opinions on this cabinet and counter together? I don’t know how I feel!

Thank you for your reassuring words! 😊 I guess it’s just not what I expected so will take some getting used to.

Don't fret yet! I think if you put a dark gray tile on the wall (the color in the countertop) the cabinets and countertop will really pop! I agree with another person that when you put some other colors in the room with towels, art on the walls, placemats, etc. you will really love your new room! Not a professional decorator, but I did own a cabinet and contertop company for several years.

Hu- you are already more experienced than me. The problem is I already have the backsplash tile which is also a white- somewhere in the middle of the stark white and cream!

It is pretty. How about a gray tile? These are hand-made in NY with subtle variation in the color and come in a variety of shapes and sizes.

I like it not so matchy matchy. Need the right backsplash to compliment them. My bath vanity and countertop doing same.

I really like it! I agree with jackowskib you don’t want it too matchy matchy
When you are finished please post pics

Pay the restocking fee on your white backsplash tile, and choose a new one...it will be much cheaper than getting the tile installed, not loving it and likely eventually redoing it. Since the whites are already not ideal to your eye, don't mess it up by adding 1 more. Mistakes/surprises happen...be flexible.

I too think it is lovely. What color are your cabinets (and what brand, if you don't mind me asking!)

What about the other way around--countertop slightly too warm for the cabinets? Does that work, too?

Another vote to restock the bright white tile. The white of the counter makes it the focus in a good way. Choose a backsplash that blends with the cabinets and doesn't compete with the counter.

It's not a goof up at all. I like the subtle contrast a lot. Suggestion for backsplash is brushed stainless subway tile. It will work with the slightly grayed white of the cabs, the hardware, and betting, your appliances.

Karishma - it’s lovely the way it is! Think of it as layering shades of white, adding interest. I do agree with changing the splash from white to something else.

I love the clasic nuetrality of the combination. i am not a decorator so will leave backsplash ideas to the more knowleegeable that are posting but I think you havr a good thing going.

I am not sure about that particular white marble-look quartz brand, but my sparkle white quartz kitchen counters changed from super bright white when new to more off white after a year or so. Yours looks great to me!

Is this a lighting color problem rather than a matching issue? On my screen, the pantry cabinet looks gray, while the cabinets are a yellowy cream. The gray looks good with the counter, the yellow less so.

It will be beautiful! I had the same problem that really upset me. I moved to a house with what I thought were “white” cabinets.
Wanted a plain white quartz...oh oh!!!! Big problem or so I thought until I started adding in other neutrals and a pop of color.
Now I love it and you will love yours too!

what is the issue? it looks totally fine. i am actually doing something similar in my new apartment in trieste (well, new for us but the building is 110+ years old from austrian hungarian empire period) my cabinets are more of a pure white white my marble is a bit of grey. but it will work just fine.

It's fine. And your white backsplash tile might work with a gray grout. But look at it carefully in all kinds of light before you decide. Stand back and look at it from a distance, with the lighting you will have.

Jiddie, I am in love with your kitchen. It’s so warm and unique. Thanks for posting the photos!

Your combination is beautiful!! I would choose a light to medium gray simple backsplash. Let your countertop be the star.

Another vote against a white backsplash. Pay the restocking fee and get something different. Great cabinets and counter

Yet another vote for ditching the white tile, select a shade of gray with matching grout. Take your time when choosing - wait until everything else is completed. LOVE the countertop and cabinets.

I love it! I am wanting to do similar in our kitchen (if I make it through our bathroom reno without losing my mind lol). I would get a couple samples of a light gray backsplash and use your white tile with gray grout and make a few boards. See how they look at different times of the day, different angles etc. Then make a decision.

What brand cabinets/color are these? We did Waypoint Painted Linen in our lake house kitchen and they lean toward a very light cream, but I like that yours lean toward light gray.

@jiddie, can you share the manufacturer/pattern of the wallpaper? I'm looking for something like this for my powder room.
