You could leave the view pretty open by hanging two pendants, one near each end of the table. It’s a long table! I really love the first one you posted that relates to the kitchen fixture.

Oh, that's an interesting idea! That fixture is my favorite. Two more questions, if you don't mind.

1. There are recessed lights at each end of the table, so the middle is the dark spot. That fixture is 21" diameter. Would proportions and light work well if I placed each fixture 21" from the table end, with 21' between them?

2. Should I do white with a gold leaf interior, or gold leaf with a white interior? Here's the rest of the room, which is brass for most metal. Gold seems right to me if I do one, but maybe too much if I hang two. But then, I'm here because I don't trust my own judgment!

I agree with 2 fixtures especially if those you’ve chosen do not have more than 1 bulb - we did this in our DR and it lights the room nicely especially on a dimmer (i always blow up balloons and hang them with string to get a feel for the scale, something you could try)

@RL Relocation LLC yes, I've posted this room before, and you gave very helpful advice! But I'm focusing in now on the pendant. DH has been vetoing everything for inconsistent reasons, so I was hoping some guidance here would help us both agree on something.

@RL Relocation love those, DH has specifically vetoed that type. He wants a fixture with a central light. No sputniks or candelabras or anything with radiating bulbs. Sorry, should have put that restriction at the start of the thread.

Agree! Love the Poulsen pendant. I'll have to see if I can sell the husband guy on it.

I would say the Poulsen or the one from West Elm with the wood. both give the down light and are very non invasive.

Thanks! I'm saving them both to my ideas folder. After some extensive internet shopping, the significant other decided this decision was too much right now. Kitchen remodel work starts in 6 weeks, and our contractor will install the wiring for a dining pendant. But we will pause on the shopping until after the dust settles.

I really appreciate everyone's input here! I've got helpful ideas to work with when DH is ready to think about this.

I know you're going for the MCM style, but there are much more creative fixtures out there to choose from.

Thanks @BeverlyFLADeziner! Those are all awesome lights. But we're really gun-shy about LED fixtures. The ones we've seen in person have a very cool light. And the lighting store I talked to said that "warm-to-dim" tech isn't available in integrated LED fixtures. It feels like really great LED fixtures are still a few years away. But maybe you know a good source for warm integrated LED fixtures?

I'm really disappointed to hear that a lighting store told you that. Warm is available. However dimming LED can be a challenge, mostly because you have to marry the dimmer to the driver in the LED. That being said, I have cheap LED wafer lights in my house and they dim just fine with a standard dimmer.

If you get 120v LED it should work with a dimmer

if you get low voltage LED it stands to need a new dimmer switch.

I can change the color of the LED lights on my makeup mirror with a switch. I believe it has to do with the LED lights used. There are scores of options out there. I would not take one store's word as gospel.

Thank you both. Husband really likes the dramatic LED shapes. So when he's ready to shop, we'll try a few more stores and investigate those further.
