Our designer floated this at one point- i loved the blue and the storage but thought the metal/mesh would be too contemporary for our house, is that correct? Really appreciate all the advice, I’m desperately trying to pull this house together!

Since you have the one small chest consider using an upholstered bench with storage and removing the chair. Not sure what all kid's stuff that you'd throw in there but it could house backpacks and a few random toys. The picture below shows a more modern style, but you get the idea. You have plenty of space above to add height visually with some art and get additional color in the room, and a sconce or lamp in the space so that the whole room doesn't have to be lit. If a console is what you prefer though

IMO the wall needs a console table more like you see below. It's a basic piece that can be dressed up or down depending on the mirror and accessories placed next to it.

What colors are you using in the adjoining rooms? Is there a color that's popping up in art, pillows, rugs, a chair? Something you love that's worth repeating would be my choice.

I love all of @BeverlyFLADeziner’s ideas. A simple console, dressed up to complement the adjoining room colors, will work beautifully. The console she used has a very open feel as well.

Ill give you my opinion. The console and that chair together in that picture makes everything look too big and dark. Get rid of the chair, center the table. I think that the console is a good size for the foyer, I would get a 60” round mirror (with a gold frame?) to put over the console. I dont mind the black, but painting it a beautiful dark dark navy with gold pulls and feet would took fantastic. Try to find baskets to fit on those middle shelves. I dont think that it looks heavy, it has long thin legs, the piece (or picture) is so dark, it looks worse than it is. It has a simple classic shape it seems (the pic is kind of dark) Im not a fan of the carpet. I would get rid of the other piece and put a small, simple, wooden bench with stacked artwork over it. Im not a pro, I just thew my hat in lol

So something like this in Navy? I also really like the Alexandra but with the drawers in the middle there’s not room for storage baskets. Wayfair dupe has a little more room, i think.

Curious re: the rug, for those who dont love it, is it the shape or color/pattern (or both)?

The roundness, if the stairs are parallel to the door, id use a square rug. The pattern is pretty tho. What color are those walls? I would try painting that piece before buying another, lol, but thats just me.

For me its square or rectangle. in some pics the walls look blue or off white. Are they gray?

The color is olympus white… its a light blue gray on the swatch but unfortunately looks much bluer on our walls.

Thats what im picturing w your existing piece. paint it swap the hardware. Put a couple of baskets on the shelves to pull in some natural texture and farmhousy look. The pulls in this latest piece are a bit too traditional to me. You were aiming for traditional farmhouse or a modern farmhouse look (which is all the rage right now)? I guess the question is, are you happy with the style of your home or are you trying to change it?

The existing piece is new from West Elm and arrived with a bent leg, so i need to return it anyway. I’d prefer to buy something refinished rather than paint the black only because the price of the refinished pieces is so much lower. Was thinking the drawer pulls could be changed to something similar to below, unless its length isnt standard/compatible

Any thoughts on these? Acknowledging all would need hardware changes, and the 2 teal/green are customizable. Top left isnt clear so added another angle- id paint it all teal and do black or silver hardware

I like those hunt tables on the slim legs. I have an antique one myself.

I think I’m going to give this one a try. Would you do a round mirror? Console is 58” and wall is 107”. With the extra space on either side, plant and coat tree? Plant in front of coat tree and small chair or stool on other side? I also have space across from there i could put a shoe bench.

I love the navy lower left table. If you’ve decided to try the Alexandra, put it against the wall and reassess. Don’t start adding anything until it has arrived, you love it and it’s in the designated space.

What happened to Pottery Barn's Elora mirror, which might not look so wrong - have you tried it over the green unit? of course, no mirror over wider one.

I was wrong, it wasn the alora, it was this one- i havent unboxed it yet because i figured i’d need something less formal looking if i go with the open shelves, but i could definitely be wrong!

RedRyder, i love that piece too, but not sure if the shiny lacquer would work in my house since everything else is matte (railing, brushed nickel fixturestires), not sure if that’s overthinking it. Also, i dont have any other gold accents in the house so would need to change the hardware but not sure what color. i could probably find a used piece and commission something similar though, like the second picture’s color scheme on a bowed buffet like the first.

If you can paint, find an old piece on Craigslist, FB Marketplace, etc. and pick the exact color in the right finish for your entryway. Once I figured out how to paint furniture (chalk paint, low gloss, high gloss) it opened up a whole world of options. I also repainted two vanities. Don’t rush getting an entry piece. It’s a huge “hello” when people come to visit and you should be happy with it. The hunt pieces feel lighter to me, which is why I like them.

I totally had mixed up what a hunt table was haha. I think that’s the direction I’m leaning. This certainly wouldnt be a color pop, but the back might look nice with our railing?

Otherwise prob the teal Alexandra or a navy console a la the table below with a different rug.

I really like that Etsy one, the Sandpaper and Wax teal color. It is so pretty and would bring some life to your entry. You said you have that color elsewhere in your home. It feels more special and unique to me.

How about moving the chair to the other side of the modern sideboard? Move the sideboard to the right to make room for it, but angle the chair so it faces the opposite corner angle, and leave the lamp on the left end of the sideboard — but with a chair at that end of the sideboard it looks functional. I think you need white baskets in the sideboard and anything else you can do to unite the white round rug and the big black mass (white ceramic pulls for the drawers? Black and white art on the wall?

I think your green chest is too low. All of these highboys are on Chairish for under $2000 (one as low as $1400)

1. You could that chest for storage, including shoes, and you might find having ottoman’s like these useful if you have kids who need to take shoes on and off at the door. Buy as many as you ned in all one color or a mix and they can be arranged in creative ways to be a good fit for your stairway angle

I love those ottomans!! The black console is going back regardless because it arrived with a bent leg, and the green came damaged as well (possibly as a sign i’d made the wrong choices!), but angling a chair in that corner is a great idea!

If i get something like this and paint it (assuming mdf can be painted), is this ok? functional storage but being up on legs and having some glass makes it not so heavy? We have 4 and 1 yr old boys, and my husband is afraid they’d be able to tip a console table, and theyd surely pull everything off the shelves.
