Should we remove the decorative shutters?

We're thinking about removing our shutters. I've photoshopped the shutters out. Which one has more curb appeal?

either way, but without shutters you're going to have to amp up something else to give it some pizzazz.

landscaping or the portico, some other colors, front door, etc.

check out the last few pics for ideas on redoing the front door portion.

I actually like the limewashing if you want less of a colonial look. (and I'd remove the traditional looking door accent)

for instance, imagine doing the brick in the white, this type of portico, new colors. wow

look at this before and after on this red brick colonial:

This is stunning. some people prefer the before but I think the after is gorgeous. more french country. This was done w/Romabio masonry in the colors on the next pic

(and I much more prefer the copper awning over the front door, the slate tile steps and new lights)

they also have this limewash in these colors

So here's a nice limewash w/traditional elements. I like what they did w/the front door, the lights and the charcoal color shutters.

imagine if your brick was all white, maybe you did a portico like this one, and did a diff door color

even all white w/black shutters and a red door is pretty. I'd plant a lot of red and white roses in the flower beds

Like the shutters, need to update the color scheme and landscaping. I’d go with a different color on the door and shutters and get rid of the brown on brown color scheme.

Instead I'd try to make the house look more unique by limewashing the brick to give it a vintage feel.

Like both but no shutters draws attention to lack of landscaping which needs to compensate for lack of decor.

I like it without the shutters, but I have an issue with the super skinny door on such a large facade. Perhaps darkening the trim and downspout color to match the keystones above the windows would help eliminate the harsh contrast the white seems to cause. Can the white windows be painted? Berm landscaping would help a lot.

The style of this house is a natural for shutters, unlike may houses which have shutters. This house might look nice with white shutters to brighten up the facade.

What bothers me is how close together the shutters are, especially on the right. There’s better distance between shutters in Beverly’s pics. Looks less busy and less tight.

The thing is we have no idea what the budget is:

Taking off shutters could essentially be free and that may be the preferred budget.

But no, paint the entire house and build a portico as a viable alternative. $0?, $75,000... whatever, same difference.

The shutters suit that style of house, try going with white shutters. I like the brick I wouldn’t spend money limewashjng,instead spend it on landscaping

The shutters fit with the style of the house. But, the different sizes throws everything off. If it were me, I’d remove them, paint the white trim around the door the color of the keystones and paint the door other than black.
