Hand Pollination? Pear tree

Hi,

I have a containerized pear espalier that has both anjou and red bartlett pears.

I overwintered them in the garage, so they broke dormancy too early.

My Bartlett branches are just about to bloom, the anjou don’t seem to be blooming this year.

I’d like to get at least a few pears, I know these are partially self fruitful, but I don’t know if enough pollinators are out yet as it just got warmer here in zone 5, my planted fruit tree buds haven’t developed much either yet.

Can I pollinate the flowers by hand? Should I just brush the same flower, or do I take pollen from flower to flower? And how long after the blooms open should I do this?

Brush the pollen from flower to flower. And you can do this as soon as the individual blossoms are fully open.

Interesting that yours outside are still not showing flowers. Pears are one of the earliest fruit trees to bloom.

attached garages can be 2 to 3 zones warmer than outside ... and detached.. 1 or 2 .. that is why they are blooming and nothing in mother earth is ...

why isnt this plant in mother earth???

where are you.. big city name.. z5 is about half the us and very divergent ...

pollen can actually be stored ... you can look that up ...

but when the flower is receptive and able to process applied pollen is .. or can be a very short precise window ... and you are going to have to research that if no one here can answer precisely ...

it is probably not something you can do.. lets say.. after work in the evening .. but i dont know for sure ...
