Spring flowers in April

The daffodils have faded but other flowers are taking their place. Here are some of the flowers blooming right now.

This is a dwarf iris whose name I don't know.

The lilacs are in bloom and the garden sure smell good. Maiden's Blush is probably the most responsible for the fragrance as its aroma is powerful. It's also a wonderful grower.

Blue Skies is vigorous but the fragrance is not very strong.

These two darker purples are similar but I don't know their names. They both have big flower panicles.

We don't grow many tulips because the critters eat the bulbs. Bob found online some wire baskets to plant the bulbs in to deter the critters. This is one of my favorite color combinations. And it's fringed too.

We always have a couple of pots of violas in the spring. This pot has done well.

In a week we might have some early daylily flowers. H. minor has eleven scapes coming up. Each scape will probably have just a few flowers and, of course, it will be yellow, but it will be welcome. We can't wait for the others to start blooming.

Beautiful, love the lilacs. My old fashiod lilac just finished a few days ago. A few years ago I bought one of those reblooming lilacs. I was ready to take it out, the blooms were odd, and almost no fragrance. The last couple of years though it has been really nice, and very fragrant. I will try to remember to get a picture.

Love spring flowers! What a gorgeous dwarf iris clump! Lilacs do not perform well here. However, like Nancy, I have an old fashioned one that does well and has the scent to go with it. Yours are lovely as is that pot of violas.

They are all so pretty!

My Iris have started. So have my lilacs but the bush has few flowers and gets worse by the year. Too much shade.

Maiden's Blush looks like a winner. We had some extreme weather in March, and I believe that is the reason why some lilacs are not blooming well. Maiden's Blush looks as though it is a reliable bloomer. If you score the woody stems of the lilac trusses, they also make good cuts.

gorgeous blooms Nancy! You are quite a bid ahead of my gardens. The daffodils are still doing well. I wish it would warm up here. The gardens all look good so far, lots of rain here.

Lovely, Nancy. I wish I could smell those lilacs. We can't really grow them here, since it is too hot for them.

You have a lot of pretty lilacs. I had one when we first moved to this place, but my allergies acted up so much when it was in bloom that we took it out. I like the color combo of your tulips! The critters get my tulips too. I may try some of those baskets.
