Depending on the cultivar planted, that's kind of the way catmints roll :-)) Also, an overly rich soil or heavy rains can also cause persistent floppiness.

Feel free to do the Chelsea Chop (cut back by 1/3 to 1/2) now. In no time, they will be flowering and you won't even notice the tendency to flop. And cut back again after the first round of flowering to keep plant compact and full and to encourage another flush of blooms.

the bare part in the middle.. also know as a fairy ring.. indicates to me.. that in dormancy.. in late winter ... you could have chopped THE WHOLE THING down to a few inches.. so all new growth would have been from that wonky middle ... which wouldnt be there if it wasnt ..

you have 3.. so go chop one .. take pix.. before.. after. and keep us posted.. see how it grows compared to the others over the season.. and come next spring.. you will remember what to do with it...

i remember all my experiments for 40 years back.. i dont recall what i read on the WWW last week ...

and see if the cats are interested.. if so.. jam all the cuttings into an old sock.. and throw it on the floor and see what stoned felines are all about ... if it that kind of catnip/catmint .....

You can hack it back all the way to the ground and it will quickly resprout. I do this with my catmints after flowering -- otherwise, they get all sprawly.
