Do you like it?

It has its uses. Most enjoy it until it tries to take over others find it dies out for them. I ripped out scads of it because I got tired of pulling it out from around other more desirable plants three times a year. Very pretty when it blooms and can make an attractive lawn alternative. All that matters is if you like it and have a use for it. Opinions will vary.

I tend to prefer the ones with off color foliage, like Black Scallop, Chocolate Chip and Burgundy Glow. They don't seem to spread as voraciously as the green ones.

There is some growing in a part of my lawn that has dark foliage. That is the only place it exists in the garden and I have no idea how it got there. But I am not a lawn fanatic so as long as it is not a proper weed, like dandelions or plantain, whatever grows in my lawn is allowed to stay. The ajuga is just one of a number of interesting items growing there :-)

the non foo foo one.. yours.. is one of those pants you can plant under trees where nothing else grows ... like norway maples ...

you have about 10 billion plants there.. if you need more.. just dig them up and move them around ... just do go spend money to buy more ...

Like gardengal I too like the ones with more variation in the foliage, but I've tried several and they just don't last for me. And actually, I got some at a plant swap once, the "regular" old plain one (because people bring things to swaps that spread easily, lol) and even that did not do well in the bed I was trying to establish it in. I now have some in between the pathways of my raised cinderblock veggie beds. A good 75 feet away, so I'm also trying to figure out how it got there! I assumed being a groundcover it spread by runners, but perhaps by seed as well?

I find it vigorous but not aggressive. This photo shows the pathway from last summer. This took ten years to get like this, so not overly aggressive. The weird thing is IIRC it's supposed to be a good groundcover for shade. This is in almost full sun (the fullest I have) and the soil is very poor and shallow, only about an inch or so deep, being on solid ledge (hence the raised beds). (At the top of the photo you can actually make out the solid ledge - not even any soil in spots!) But it's prettier than leaf mulch, keeps the weeds down fairly well, and is tough enough to walk on, so I keep it here. And so pretty in bloom!

It is quite pretty when in bloom
